Just caught up on this, I got a copy of the policy and those 3 words jumped out at me also. I've asked the perspective of the underwriter. 993 appreciate your feedback on the wording from someone who knows what the legal definition of that phrase means :-)
FWIW, this is a copy of the perils covered from a lockton policy:
PERILS COVERED
We cover risks of physical “loss” to your “scheduled automobile” that occur due to your participation in “Driver Education Events” shown on the “Schedule of Covered Events” unless the loss is limited or caused by a peril that is excluded.

I like the wording from the Lockton policy much better, but I like the price and unlimited events of the other policy.. Ben is working on getting clarification from the carrier. There's no amount of savings worth it if the policy doesn't pay when you need it to.

Any update on this? TIA.

I just herd from Ben. The carrier has decided to remove the intervening cause language from the policy, so I am moving forward. This seems like a great alternative to normal options.

Excellent! I reached out to Ben and owe him a call back (real life work getting in the way of fun times!).

Got a quote as well - right now only for the Cayman R.
Cost is just over 4.2% of declared value. I'd have to do at least 9 events for this to make sense over the cost of www.ontrackinsurance.com which I've used for several years. I normally don't insure events at my home track because I get so many laps I'll skip driving if I don't like what's happening on track (doesn't bother me to miss track time at this point - I get more than enough).
I usually only insure "bigger" events like PCA events at Watkins Glen, Mid-Ohio, Road America or a David Murry event like Road Atlanta. I like to insure these events because they are more expensive and I've committed more resources for an entire weekend, and I'm more committed to maximizing my track time because I'm not there very often. Risk seems higher (maybe it's not different) so I feel better with track insurance.
I've heard back quickly from Ben who also mentioned they are dropping the "intervening cause" language. He also said all tracks are covered.
I also asked about events in Canada because I'd like to return to Mosport at least once each season. There will be an additional fee and he doesn't have details yet but will get back to me. I was not able to get track insurance at all last year for Mosport - so there's another advantage to SterlingRisk.
Bottom line - if I do enough events this is an attractive price.
Thanks to the OP for sharing this info!
