Two objects of my affection.
One, a minimalist spec modern day roadster.
The other a no-frills undiluted street legal race car.
One with its delicacy captures the soul.
The other with its fierceness sends tingles down your spine.
After collectively putting 30,000 road miles on these two models I can say that they are two very different yet supremely satisfying cars. Both cars back up all the hype with their driving dynamics, gearbox, steering and road feel.
Long live 997.2/987.2 and thank you Porsche for making these cars.
As much as I would hate to part with either car .. If I were to choose one to keep "forever", it would have to the one that has guards red painted on its ..
Ah never mind I'll keep you guessing.

This retirement is worth working all my life for some years of fun.

For me a sports car needs to have a soul .. a character if you will. The air cooled cars (especially the torsion bar ones) give me the deepest joy .. their "flaws" and quirks were part of the charm. If the car is homogenous then I lose interest.
