A 4.0, a GT2RS and a CGT are having a drink...

Are you blokes kidding??? GT2RS without equal, THAT has got real go! There are not many cars around that you really have to think about when you apply the power exiting corners. A pyscopath in a nutcase's clothing!

in anticipating/comparing future values of a supercar porsche (CGT) to a 911 porsche (RS4.0L), perhaps consider the 959 values to a 993RS or 993GT2?
Where are the values of these today and which of them hold the highest resale/demand?

IMO the successor to the 959 is the 918, there has not been anything in between that served the same purpose - to explore many new technologies (and styling) that will trickle down.
CGT is nice, but I've never lusted after one. The F40, F50, ENZO and the F1, sure, but not the CGT. Beautifully crafted under its skin, I remember seeing one in the nude at the detroit autoshow. It did not show what Porsche could do dynamically - it checked a lot of boxes, but it didn't seem to have a purpose other than to utilize developed components, concepts, and knowledge that never made their way into a race program.
GT2RS is a beast, but as others say, didn't accomplish much more than tuners have been able to do, and there are a long line of Turbos coming to muddy the waters. There is deep heritage in the use of turbos, but nothing shares its timeline.
GT3RS/4.0 - is the end of an era of philosophy at Porsche (I loved Pete's article on this topic). It's contemporary vintage. It shared strong ties to factory racing during the same timeline. It didn't give anything to pass onto future generations other than a giant set of shoes to fill and the middle finger to technology. It's sad to me that what makes these cars special will be experienced only the few who are passionate enough (maybe stubborn is a better word) to put them on a track.
Obviously drinking wine at this point, and I would happy own any one of them, but I only lust after the RS - I clearly have a problem.

GT2rs isn't it. The 4.0 could be if it were really the end of an era but the new RS could be its equal. That leaves the CGT which reminds me of a question raised by a rennlister a few years ago: What should I get, an R8 or a Ford GT? The answer was pretty clear: the next R8 is already in development but there will never be another Ford GT. So there's your answer oh, wait

991RS will not have a stick shift, it will have the RWS, and it will not share the same components or engine of the Cup car.

Never drove a CGT so hard for me to compare with my 4.0.
Don't mean to hijack the OP....Maybe throw a 993TT into the discussion as prices are really elevating and it's the last of the classic aircooled ?
Definitely a difficult choice btwn CGT and 4.0

Great discussion, just as I expected. I don't feel the 993TT is in the same conversation with these three...I purposely began post-959, which is certainly already and forever in the broader conversation. If you wanted to expand the realm, I think the 993GT2 is the other car to include, but then you must seriously consider the 964 Turbo S Leichtbau - thus I kept it to these three.

GT2RS just a bigger hammer than all past Turbos and like the GT2 will be less special due to all turbo future cars. Numbers car not drivers car.
4.0 is special, the last of an era, but to drive not all that more special than GT3 3.8RS.
So symbolic. A car representing so many things now lost forever.
CGT is on a completely different level. To drive, to collect, to look at. Less than a handful of cars ever made are so special.
It would pick up the tab for the 4.0 and GT2RS than ask security to get rid of them and the girls all would be happy to share.

CGT - because trickle down to various models
same conversation 10 years from now, 918 - next gen tech trickle down over time

The 4.0 has to be the one. Mezger from the RSR. A real link to the factory race car is the most important thing here. The CGT would be next because it was Porsche's supercar. The GT2 RS would be last. It is basically a GT2+. I think even the 3.8 RS would rank higher than the GT2 RS in the long run. Just my opinions.

Enjoyed reading all the great barstool arguments, but have to agree with the above, by Tasman.

CGT hands down.
because it's almost bespoke, and was built with minimal compromise.
4.0 is a very significant car as well, probably of more importance than CGT, but it is indeed (albeit limited), another variant of a mass-produced car.
this is purely financially-driven answer.
as for the car to drive, i would pick 4.0

CGT.
I hold the other two in high regard but they're evolutions of a great idea. The CGT is a great idea by itself, whose design is still manifested in cars a full decade later.
