Met a guy in the garage next to us at COTA, he had a custom Trailex enclosed that had a higher than normal ceiling and tons of storage for tools, compressor, 8 tires. It was a really nice setup. Clearly spent a lot of time upgrading the storage - it looked like a tetris puzzle.

After spending yesterday with a fellow rlister that has an enclosed Trailex, I'm coming to the conclusion that an open trailer is the best option for me - I appreciate everyone's feedback, glad I didn't pull the trigger on that other trailer.

I know it will cost me more in the long run, and given that I can't get rid of the Cayenne, open is a better and safer option. I'll be picking up a Featherlite 3110 later this week.

Here I am 4 month behind Kas and literally sent him the same trailer he has at the opening of this thread.

People talk of cross wind sway being bad with 20footer enclosed with normal roof height (but AL so sub 5500 all in weight) in a cayenne - does anyone have FIRST hand experience of this towing with a pepper or is it internet group think?

Trailex at 18k+shipping+tax+registration isnt a go for me. All in budget is 10 for enclosed, less if open this all reduces track day budget so want to be thoughtful here and am not a trailer brand snob.

I just recently sold my Featherlite 3110 and bought an brand new all aluminum ATC 22x8.5 with a 2' V nose. It weighs 2300# empty. I think my featherlite with tire rack was 1500#. I thought about getting the shorter 20' version but the weight difference was only 100# so I got the 22 footer. I tow it with a Cayenne S at an altitude of 5000'+ and it does great. Fully loaded it weighs 5700#. Granted, due to the air resistance I can tow it comfortably at 65-70mph while with the featherlite I could do 80+. The ATC tows great and I can't say winds have much effect on it. Overall I'm very happy with a trailer around the $10K mark. I would definitely go with a V nose if you are going to tow it with a Cayenne or equivalent. It's just so much nicer having an enclosed trailer vs. the featherlite so you can get out of the elements or shield the car when the weather turns crappy.

What features does the ATC have, if you don't mind sharing?

 

I keep hearing these stories - and no one saying they got their a*s handed to them towing an enclosed and being blown over

 

If it gets too windy just pull over. Chances of that kind of wind in NorCal aren't too high.

I bought the entry level "Raven" as it was the lightest and I was just looking for something simple without a lot of fluff. The main options I added besides the 2' "V" nose was the 3500 torsion axles. I also had the factory add an extra set (4) of in floor D-rings for $95 and a matching aluminum spare wheel/tire mounted in the interior ($75). Oh, I also opted for a 2nd LED ceiling light for $40. For free the factory also installed a 2x2' reinforcement aluminum plate in the floor at the tip of the "V" so I could add a floor mounted winch in the front if I wanted to.

If you step up to the "Quest" model, you can do a 4' "V" which would be more aerodynamic. On the Quest you can do whatever options you can dream up as it is a built to order trailer. I think you can also get the trailer built with a lower ceiling on both the Quest and Raven. I though about that but I think that would really hurt the resale value down the line and no one want to hunch over inside.

I don't think anyone with some common sense would have issues towing this kind of trailer in a little bit of wind. Obviously I wouldn't do it in 40mph gusting winds. If it's a little windy, slow down and keep it in your comfort zone...

 

audipwr -- you're more than welcome to checkout my ol' Trailex enclosed. Hell if you want to put your car in the back and tow it with your Cayenne to get a feel I'm sure we could figure something out.
