Nick,
What if you get rid of the cats ? Would that spice up the sound?I guess the real issue would be passing state inspection?
Do you have or know what actual Production numbers are for the 2008 GT2 USA and world wide?I heard 200 USA and 1200 world wide.
Must say I really love the car for 2 reasons The analog driving experience. A real drivers car.And the fact that it is so unique.
Value to me is nothing more than my personal enjoyment. This car has a high value in my book!
I like you have never seen one in the wild!I suppose if I ever do,I will go wild!

It will never sound like a NA car. Turbos muffle the high pitch, and the 3.6l turbocharged engine doesn't rev as high and isn't designed to be efficient at those RPM anyways. But the GT2 hisses and pops way more wildly than the NA cars as well. These things have a personality of their own. And when you do what I did (3.8l overbore, big turbos etc) the engine noise is a cacophony of mechanical sweetness.
Cats, state inspection... live in a state that doesn't have such malarky. I highly recommend it.
2008 supposedly 185 units. 2009 supposedly 20 units. Multiples of both have been written off over the last five, six years. Most of them are NOT in enthusiasts' hands, most seem to be in collections hidden away. There are probably 1/2 of all US production out and about, but that really only means about 2 cars in every state on average, much much lower than any of the GT3 variants. The 2009 GT2 is a virtual unicorn in the USA, they are out there but you may have an easier time finding MSRP on a Speciale.

If the choice is between a GT3 and a GT2, and you are wondering about the experience, you have to be honest with yourself. Do you like engine noise, the sensation of going fast, driving something relatively forgiving, and ignorant people who think 3 is better than 2? Or do you like actually going fast, don't care about "noise," driving something that requires a bit of driving ability to eek out actual performance, and ignore people who don't understand the nomenclature?

Both excellent cars. Both will put a smile on your face and tickle the senses. GT2 will never sound like a GT3RS but a GT3RS will never push your eyeballs back in their sockets. All depends on which senses you want to tickle.
Beyond that, the GT2 is a steal at the moment:
- Was the flagship in 08 and the fastest production car ever produced at the time. Still ranks near top today.
- It is a superbly built 205 mph, mid 3 second, RWD, manual gearbox, reliable Supercar with excellent handling characteristics.
- Likely fewer than 200 good examples left in the U.S. (we are talking 4.0 numbers here).
- Most are lower mile cars that have seen no track time (or in collections).
- Currently selling at $50k-$60k under MSRP while all other GT cars have had their run up. When I see a 2008 GT3RS with 20k miles selling in the same range as a 2008 GT2 with 5k miles, I snicker (no disrespect to the 08 3RS).
- In terms of value, the GT2 has been the quiet sleeper in the bunch. In my opinion (with the above points in mind), the car is poised to see significant appreciation over the coming years (in my opinion).
So far, I've never met anyone who bought a GT2 and did not have their expectations exceeded (self included).
