Stock cylinder wall? Nikasil finish?
Hi guys,
Does anyone have pics of the stock cylinder walls in a GT3? The Nikasil finish?
Dealership and Porsche Canada can't seem to figure out if my car was fondled by the previous owner. It's a warranty issue and a huge deal that is going nowhere fast. I feel from what I saw is that the cylinder walls appear fine and that their diagnostic may be incorrect...
Thanks

If they can't figure out if the car was messed with previously how can they deny coverage? unless they have proof, they should just foot the bill. Good luck with everything, wish you all the best. I'm sure someone will chime in with the info you need.

Yes Nikasil/aluminum liners

If they can't figure out if the car was fondled with, then they have to cover it. It's not up to you prove that it was not tampered with (prove a negative), it's up to them to prove that it was tampered with.

Here are a few pictures of the inside of my cylinders. At first glance it looks like the marks look more coarse than a typical Nikasil finish. But what do I know it's all new to me...

based on your pictures, IMO it looks like steel liners instead of Nikasil

Cross hatching is still visible so that's good. Best way to tell the condition is to measure for taper and out of round. But your dealer should know that, instead of making assumptions.

What is the problem with your engine and what are the concerns of your dealer and Porsche?

This started with a 2nd RMS repair in 3 months. Right now the car smokes badly on startup as well and there'sa bigger than usual oil spot (kinda like the RMS leak but about twice as big). As far as I'm able to understand the situation is that there is a vacuum loss that they tracked all the way there.

Inrev, I just went through a major overhaul of another engine with Nikasil coating on the cylinder bore (no liner). A (bad) concept that was tried by some engineer years ago...The cross hatched portion of my cylinders looked good, however, I had pitting of the coating as well. Your second picture looks a lot like my cylinder.
So, I had some good cross hatch section and some bad pitting. Outcome for me was, high oil consumption, and loss of compression and low power when things got nice and hot. I had to purchase new cylinders as this was a high performance no liner concept. Not sure if this helps, but if I am seeing pitting in your liner then that is bad. Typically caused by water / condensation and or engine not run often, as I was told.
(not GT3 engine...but similar). GL
