Default No More Trucks on The Tail of the Dragon

Should make for a better run the next time the Rennlist GT3 Freight Train rolls through.

Some scary videos on the Autoblog page to go along with the story:
http://www.autoblog.com/2014/12/07/t...dragon-videos/

"Drivers and riders in Tennessee have one of America's greatest driving roads at their disposal, but soon truckers won't as the state's Department of Transportation is closing the roadway known as the Tail of the Dragon to tractor-trailers.

The highway officially known as US 129 (SR 115), or more commonly as Deals Gap, The Tail of the Dragon, or simply as The Dragon, is an eleven-mile stretch of road in Blount Country, TN, that runs from the North Caroline State Line to Tabcat Bridge. It features over 300 turns that have made it a haven for enthusiasts on two wheels or four, but between 2010 and 2012, there were 204 crashes on that section of road. Six of those involved fatalities, but while only one of those fatalities, according to the statement below, involved a tractor-trailer, "there were a number of incidents involving large trucks."

As a result, the Tennessee DOT is imposing a ban on vehicles over 30 feet long from driving on the Dragon, with signage indicating as such to be installed in mid-January. The decision follows a similar ban enacted across the state line on the same route by the authorities in North Carolina. Head on down below for a few video clips that illustrate just how problematic the issue of trucks on the Dragon has become."

I also have to make it down there- would be very cool to get some other flatlanders there! I was so spoiled being raised in the Vancouver area and having roads at my disposal such as the Sea to Sky Highway (probably drove that road at least 500 times) and the Sunshine Coast Hwy 1 (where I was raised) I didn't know what flat was until I arrived in Chicago 11 winters ago. A little candy shot of my regular "commute" to Whistler!

How about we put something down on the calendar next year and instead of making excuses let's make a road trip!

Early May perhaps?

Rode it several times on my motorcycle (non-Harley) and really enjoyed it. Definitely worth 'some' effort. Not sure I'd drive down from Colorado, or some other state with great roads for it though. It's not a fraction as thrilling as a good track. You'll typically get stuck behind someone poking along. With a bike it's a quick pass between curves. With a car it's way more difficult.

Thought trucks didn't use that route already - only by mistake.
