Default question about rear toe links (locking plates)

Hey guys, so after my not-so-stellar track experience last time around, I'm getting my car ready for the next event. Roll bar and race seats are in. Harnesses are en route, and so are my hankook rs3's. Still need an alignment though, to make sure everything is proper before I hit the track again (hoping to avoid spins this time).

Since I don't want to have to constantly re-align the car, I was wondering if I can get away with just buying the locking plate kit for the toe links, or if I have to buy the aftermarket links as well. I'm not planning to lower, and would like to just buy the locking plates, but i'm not sure if they will work with the stock toe links. Thanks!

I got both - and it turned my under steering to snap over steering car until a very predictable over steerer

Get tarrett plus good alignment

If you remove the eccentric washer and use locking plates, you have no way to adjust alignment without links. If you have two piece LCA's with shims, you can play with that but the locking plates are for solid links. If your eccentric washers are moving, mark them with a paint pen and watch them. At least you can move them back if they move.

Need adjustable toe-links if you are going to use the locking plates, since otherwise you would have no way of adjusting the toe.

Wouldn't try to adjust it through the LCA shims as that would change your camber.

Thanks guys. Exactly the info I needed. Looks like I'll be getting both. Anyone know the cheapest source?

There is something cheap in this hobby?

Don't buy cheap. Tarett or erp or motorsport.

bumping an old thread, my GT3 went from pretty planted after an alignment to having the rear move around a lot lately. I think my rear toe has lost it's setting after the alignment. Is this what I need when I get a fresh alignment so the toe settings hold?

I believe you need both adjustable toe links along with locking plates to get the alignment to hold. I used RSS.

Just responded to you

My strong guess is they moved your ride height based on your symptoms

Anyone have good baseline numbers for ride height front and rear?

My understanding is you only need the aftermarket links if you lower the car quite a bit so you can get the toe back in spec. If I want to keep my stock ride height and just lock in the alignment settings don't I just need the locking plates?

Yes, just the elephant plates should work. The stock toe links run out of eccentric range (too short to achieve toe in) if you try to get over 3 degrees of camber through control arm shims and adjustment. That's when adjustable links are a must, or elephant makes an eccentric bushing for the stock toe arm which I am using now.
