Yep, had my RS for 18mo and only issues car has had that warranty would have covered is a shock that went out ($800), and an idler pulley ($200). All else has been general maintenance.

Buying new or under warranty at the time would have been a LOT more expensive.

997 cars are pretty reliable, (997.2 RS issues aside). Unknown on the 991 cars candidly at this point. But the 9A1 engine in the non GT3 has shown to be robust.

That said, I really like my RS, and while a 991 will surely be faster, my focus is on driver skill right now and will be for quite some time.

Everyone digs them but I missed my padded elbow pads and door pockets...
For what? 2 grams?

OK, OK, me too. I'd rather have all that *and* the straps. I dig them because they're cool to me.

You look around in the paddock and you see blood stained rock hard RS elbow rests and guys with band aid on left elbows.

Plus where do you out a tire gauge??
I don't mind straps as much as I mind missing door pockets.

Straps are gimmicky to me but whatever.

+1 on the door pockets. I use them every time I drive my GT3. No fumbling around storage place for wallet, keys & cell phone when touring and/or OEM tire pressure gauge when at the track (driver's side) and road atlas on passenger side (yes, a paper map has saved my a$$ many times when there is no cell signal in the middle off the Alps). Don't really care for the door strap as the red ones start to look dirty after a while. If had an RS I'd change these out to black and put the red back before selling the car.

I've wondered if they are even fire resistant. If not, what happens when the car catches fire and burns them off while you're trying to get out of your harnesses?

At the time, sure. Now not so much.. 991RS even GT3 might be less fun, but relatively cheap compared to 7-3 year old RS prices at the moment. I'm tempted to buy the orange one with tire warmers and go 5 lug. Back to perfection instead of 991 but no time to deal with all the extra stuff right now.

I made my RS all black inside, no red belts no red straps. I didn't like the look and after tracking with windows open they were grimy from brake dust and rain anyway.
