GT2 with range 4 DME report

AFAIK, over-revs 1 and 2 can be gotten by bumping into the rev limiter. Many cars have ranges 1 & 2 and they're not a big deal at all. For range 3 and above you need mechanical over-rev, e.g. "money shift". Ranges 4, 5, 6 are usually the ones you need to worry about.

On a GT2 you can get 3's bouncing off the rev limiter. I personally would not fret over a few 4's. I'd be more concerned with the overall condition of the car. That motor is near bullet-proof and plenty over-engineered to handle a few bounces in the 4's. CPO is often a fickle business. Try again tomorrow and you might get it :-)

FWIW, i have a sissy C2S (i.e. non-bulletproof - by any stretch of the imagination - engine) and have had a few hundred R5's since MANY thousands of miles, many hours and many track days ago and it's still going strong.
if it passes PPI, has an extended/warranty of some sort and is the right price, i'd consider it.

PS: on a GT3 its way more difficult to make overrevs...in a GT2 its not difficult at all - OK - Im not talking about the CUPs..and believe me there are ones with 6 and still running strong..just proves how good this engine is..

If that's true, its just plain silly and likely a sign that they are not interested in CPO'ing the higher performance, higher cost GT cars (with the more aggressive clientele). Warrantying soccer-mom's is probably a better hedge. :-)

By the way: I don't believe it either, if so, I would like to see it in written form. What is however true, Porsche has "tightened the belt" for all other 997 variants - this means all 997.1 and 997.2 which are not GT models; those cars will indeed not be able anymore to get "Porsche approved" if they have overrevs in stage 4 or more...

^^ "Shocking" is appropriate term. I have not bounced the limit in quite some time but I have a steak dinner for anyone who can get through 2nd at WOT in their first two weeks of GT2 ownership without bouncing the limiter multiple times. Its just explosive. 1st is almost impossible (squeeze the throttle, count "one Mississippi" and start shifting before you get to "p"). My pedal rarely sees the metal until I've hit 3rd - and even then, the rears are breaking loose. That's why I love it! :-)

Some had mentioned checking when the over-rev occurred and for future reference, the 100 hr mark post over-rev is the "magic" ish number (according to most porsche techs) to be really sure the car is still fine. Also remember that a new motor won't reset the DME, so a car could have state 6 over-revs and a pristine new motor...just something for future reference.
