Oh,OK.It sounds like it's airlocking in the block. You said your thermostat was working? You can pull it out and throw it in a pot of boiling water and see if it opens. We wont use em anymore. We use restrictor washers. They can't go bad.

How do I know if its working other than pulling it out? Can I pull the thermostat without having to re bleed the coolant system? Any pictures of where the thermostat is on this car?

Where is the temp sensor in the cooling system?

I have track day Saturday - what do I need to do here?

Also since I burped system no more coolant loss - ran with heater on and vent open - that was where the air was

On temp sensor car is running between just below 200 (cooler day on interstate) to between the 200 and 225 (warmer day working the car a bit harder). Is this what I should be seeing?

Always thought that gurgling sound after shutdown was oil going back into dry sump pan. I get that noise when engine is fully warmed up and shutting it down. Mike

Hey Audi, did you talk to shark about the observation? Good you see no further loss after the purging. Your observation is similar to what I experienced after an engine drop, but shop advised me to watch the coolant over next several heat cycles.

Regarding your engine temps, my car after running on track with 105 ambient temps a couple weeks ago (read by AIM via CAN BUS) was 213 coolant peak and 237 oil peak at end of a 20 min session at end of day.

I did, mention to Sharky - he kindly offered to help out, but I just can't get out to him soon enough.

Hmm seems you run cooler than I am - that is really cool no? When I was at Chuckwalla in July (at 110 ambient), I boiled over and the motor started pinging on their mustang

Its coming from right side of motor. Isnt that where the oil pump is? (water on left side and oil on right?)

You weren't driving GT3? I think Porsche or race cars are only cars that can survive the summer temps out there on track... its brutal.

Differences of note: I run Torco SR5 GDL 5w-40 oil and my car has no coolant, distilled water only with water wetter. This is a hold-over from before I had my lines pinned. May put coolant back, dunno. Seems to be OK with just water and it doesn't freeze here.

Yeah,it could be oil draining down off the heads, but it sounds like coolant boiling in the video.Your t[stat is right under the hose fitting off the radiator. If you're not loosing coolant,Don't worry about it..But if you can smell it,something aint right.

So don't think you have to worry about the gurgling sound. Probably 2 different things with respect to the coolant issue and the gurgle noise. Mike

Primary oil pump is in the engine case. The water pump is on the lower left as you are looking at the engine.

If your waterpump is going south it's very noticeable. Turn on car it leaks. Hahaha. Mike

If you're boiling over you've got a problem.I've driven Paris to Dakkar and it was probably 140 f eome days and our 59 never got over 210.You are going to cook your motor.T-stat,water pump, restriction???Open your radiator at temp and see if water is flowing. These motors are beau coup expensive!!
