Gentleman -
I posted about a year ago asking opinions about the Porsche Turbo and the GT3. I had zero experience with either, but was thinking one of them would be my next car.
In any case, I'm getting more serious and had the chance to drive a 996 Turbo and a 997.2 GT3 within the last two weeks.
My last sports car was a 2001 Viper RT/10. I use the car to run back and forth to my lake home, which is about 90 miles from where I live. Roads could be highway or two lane country roads, depending what I want to do. I sold it because I didn't like the "roof was either on or off concept" among other reasons.
Anyway, I loved the 996 Turbo. I'm sure the 997 Turbo is even better. Very comfortable car. Fast as hell.
The problem is, I loved the GT3 too. More raw. That motor just wailed with the 8500 RPM redline. I'll admit though, not as comfortable. And louder inside at cruising speeds.
My dilemma now is I'm not sure what to go after. The GT3 is a wicked car, but common sense says the Turbo might make more sense for what I want to do.
My goal is to have either a 997.1 Turbo or 997.1 GT3 within the next six months. The question is what do I buy? Any thoughts?
Mike

Don't know why Porsche is pulling the "Let them eat Cake" with no Manual tranny with the new GT3.
Further with the current valuations of the 997.1 and 997.2 GT3's you should be looking at the 997.2 Turbos, can even get a Turbo S with low miles if you are lucky. Since the folks who tend to buy the S Variety are the type to not put too many miles on them and wipe them with the proverbial Diaper if you would. Nothing wrong with that..

GT3 is the girl you dated in college, shes loud, fun, crazy, does all kinds of weird things you've never seen before.
Turbo is the perfect housewife, stable, trustworthy, good mom, can excite you at times.
I bought a "Turbo" and frequently dream about "college

No major regrets coming from a well modded 997.1 GT3 track weapon to a stock 991 TT road monster, other than the difference in sound tracks....
and I can live with that.

What version? I didn't really think of a GT3 for a DD until the 475 BHP 991!
I grew-up, in high school, playing Sega's Super Monaco GP in the arcade. At that time the Gear Change Paddles were just beginning to make their way into Formula 1 and other GP Series. So for me it's more of an Infatuation with using Paddles to change gear. Also when Speed Channel came along and they would show WRC and other forms of racing using Sequential Gear Boxes; isn't this what is currently being used in Porsche's Cup Car's? Have to use the clutch to get into first and reverse put that's about it right? That would be cool to have a SGB for the streets. But you can always hear the straight cut gearing and it's pretty damn loud. Unless you can use enough dynomat.
