Default DME interpretation 997.2 GT3 RS

Hello

I am considering purchase of this car. How concerned would you be about the # of range 4 "violations"? Operating hrs counter 148.8 at approx 36000 km.
this would be avg of 242 km/hr - how does that make any sense?

I will have DME reread if get to point of a PPI.

Thanks for any insight.

Looks like it was a single instance of an overrev, probably a missed down shift from 4 to 2. It did happen 55+ hours ago, so potentially no damage, but you never know. If you're set on the car, use it as a bargaining tool. Audipwr1 is probably right about the ECU getting wiped...

Edit: I just noticed that the date on the DME print out shows 2013, was the 148 hours from 2013? That would explain why the hours and km don't match up

Operating hours massively out of sync with miles. I would want that to be explained thoroughly. Personally a pass.

Unless the car lived on Bonneville salt flats, I could only conclude the same thing.

Car CPO'd Porsche P in Quebec.

Thanks

I personally wouldn't be too concerned about it. Looks like a single missed shift and it's not that recent.

I inquired about this RS a while back. I avoided it because the dealer confirmed that it cannot be CPO'ed. Also, make sure to ask for a complete list of mods to the car - it definitely isn't stock.

I passed on the car - not even close to passing the smell test. Vancouver broker brought it in for a customer and got a 1.5 yr CPO.

1.5 year CPO? That doesn't sound right. Probably just the remaining warranty or something aftermarket.

I just rechecked it - inspection done Oct/13, "Porsche Certified Preowned" expiry date April/16, so 2.5 yrs from inspection date, so perhaps activated at a later delivery date. Nonetheless....

Agree with previous comments that this is a SCRUBBED ECU. Revs don't drop from nearly 300 ignitions in Range 4 to none in Range 5 like that. I'm guessing this engine has seen at least 100+ ignitions in Range 5 and possibly more in 6.

But with overrevs it's really a case-by-case. A local 4.0 sold to a two-bit idiot a couple months ago promptly got overreved and suffered bent valves. ECU shows only Range 5 for that car. Meanwhile, there are cars that have seen Range 6 and are still going...

My 0.02: PPI or not, stay the F away. You're assuming a known risk, even if others are telling you that's a fat-tail the burden will be on you to seek redress if a problem materializes down the road.

.
You are right - the numbers from range 1-4 are too close..the official Porsche overrev guide also says that overevs must always decline from 1-6..here this is not really the case. However, if the car still passed the CPO test..

With regards to cars on overrev 5 or 6..yes many are still running..but I know of a few cars that have 1-2 entries in either 4,5,6..and here again Porsche guide is helpful - single entries are "bugs" and to be ignored..so thats what you probably mean..cars at 6 still running. But then again, CUP cars with hundreds in 6 are still running also..as you say: its a case by case analysis.

I would still prefer a car with 10 (honest) overrevs in 4 then having a car with 0 overrevs but where I know the guy has been driving the car to the redline each time when the engine is cold...and believe me, even with GT3s - these cases exist..

I was referring to cars with actual rev counts in 5 and 6 still running not the "1" count from signal spikes. And I'm saying the ecu looks suspicious coz it's easier to blank out a number than it is to put in a specific value after-the-fact.
