The GT2 RS is the obvious car for the collector.Plus its great performance! So is the 997 GT2 the last of the undervalued Porsches? They are relative bargain if you can find a good one.I just choose a 997 GT2 over everything else in the 140k range.

I have read several times from pro drivers that the GT2RS is the best car Porsche has ever made. However, the 997 GT2 is almost as good and less than half the cost. One I should have kept.

Gt2 vs gt3 total personal preference. So everyone's opinion is valid. However, the market is the way it is for a reason. Most people (including me) think a gt2(RS or non-RS) is a bore to drive when compared to a gt3 variant. Exciting vs most cars but not when compared to gt3. And, that's why gt2's are a "bargain". No crystal ball here, but as such, I would expect the spread to only grow over time. None of this means you personally won't like a gt2 variant more than gt3. I really wanted to like the gt2rs platform because it seemed like the "value" collector 911gt car. I drove a couple and understood why they lagged their N/A brethren in price appreciation. I bought a 4.0 instead. If you are a boost-loving turbo guy, I'm sure the gt2rs is the pinnacle. Drive both and you will know in the first mile.

Tough one but these days I love the rawness of my Bullet Racing RS'd GT2.
As you see in the picture the 4.0 is wearing its pajamas most of the time.
The Turbo boost and power availability of the upgraded GT2 does not justify the linear power-band and awesome road-manners of a stock 4.0.
The GT2 has a custom Dyno Performance Tune, RS Flywheel and Guard differential set-up and makes the 4.0 feel underpowered. The car is upgraded with GT2 RS OEM Porsche carbon fiber hood, fenders, tail lights front and rear bumpers and could be called a poor mans GT2 RS with the 250k + prices. So go out find a 08 or 09 997 GT2 to start.

Can you compare Turbo S, including the ride quality, compared to the GT2RS?
Someday I want to trade in my '76 for something just as much fun with no loss to my pocket book, a collector, like the one I presently have.

If you're worried about track soak, get bigger intercoolers. But again on a GT2RS that shouldn't even be an issue. Should have came with bigger ones to begin with.

I'm simply astonished at how awesome it is, every time I get behind the wheel.

Nordic Gold Metallic is the name of that color for those who don't know. A dealer would highly suggest against getting.g that color on the color because of resale because there is only one.other person in the world who would buy a 911 that color... Me!

Thanks for everyone's input. Very interesting. I'm working deals on both a GT2 and an RS. I will likely go with the one that gives me the best "value." When I do, I will post pics. Appreciate all the insight.

I bought my GT2 new and had a deposit down for delivery of a GT2RS but decided against taking delivery, the main reason (sad tho this sounds) is because it is not possible to fit seat belts in the RS, they don't have the mounting metal there. I need rear seats as I have kids and the rear seats are used a lot.
The differences between the 2 and the RS are quite small, the engines are very similar so making a 2 engine into 620PS RS spec is as cheap as some intercoolers and a new ECU program. The main trick of the RS is all the clever weight saving which Porsche did but most RSs are specced up heavily from enthusiastic first owners and come in around 1420kg DIN. I specced my GT2 as a "lighty" spec and it weighs 1440kg DIN so no much in it there.
I think using an RS a lot may wear the nice carbon pieces (like the hood) and the 2 is a more suitable daily driver which is as robust as a regualr 997.
The RS has to be the one for future values but the 2 may also fare OK due to low production run, less than 1260 made worldwide.

Regarding the GT3 v GT2 this has to be a personal choice, some people like torque. The GT has the same chassis as the GT3RS so actual handling is similar. My tuner builds a 4.3litre motor for the 3 and apparently it is as fast as a GT2RS on the circuit but when I showed interest in it he (in a typically all knowing Germanic way) told me to forget the idea of a GT3, even one with 530hp as I would find it just too slow compared to my tuned 2.
IMO the GT2 is the best Porsche turbo ever made.....

Quick Reply: Should I buy at GT2RS?
