997.2 RS vs 997.1 GT3: How much better?
I know .2 RS is the superior car. However, just how much better is it? I don't care about faster acceleration or comfortable commuting. I only care about driving experience, handling abilities and fun to drive factor.
Please note my car is only driven on the street. Are the superior abilities of the RS noticeable on the street?

however if you are thinking of acquiring a 'classic' I think the .2 RS will be such in the future vs. .1 GT3 ...

I have serious .2 RS envy
BTW, how does the standard .2 compare to these two? Which is closer to overall in driving experience?

I've owned both...'07 GT3 and '11 RS3.8 (avatar)
HUGE difference (street only, no track)
Handling (lack of rear bump steer) alone is worth the difference, as is the gearing.
I LOVED my 07 GT3 (mainly because of the sunroof) but .2RS is greatly superior.

The .2RS is a rough ride on anything but smooth tarmac and it's short gearing is not well suited to freeway driving. Personally, I wouldn't want to drive it as a DD - at least not where I live.

997.1GT3 makes for a great street 911. The price range of $75-85k is fair.
997.2RS is 3-5 years newer and priced at $130k+
Given the price delta I cant see it being worth it if only for a street car.
But if you can afford the delta, a RS is great 911 to own.
I picked up a 997.1GT3 to use as a street car this year. Given the price of the .2RS it was a no brainer for what the difference is on the street....

.2Rs and .2 GT3 drive nearly identically on road. Same ride, steering and brakes. Shorter gearing gives RS a bit more punch but hard to appreciate in public roads.
Biggest difference in that the single mass flywheel in RS rattles like a mother****er at stop lights.
RS legacy and visual drama not to mention cars and coffee bragging rights is huge and tempting though.

Just moved up to Portland and my usual DD is still shipping. Have been using my 7.1 GT3 daily and absolutely love it- especially with the Sharky bypass. So much fun on the streets. Will be driving down to Sears Point in a few weeks for DE- race. Looking forward to the road trip!! Incredible cars!

On the street you will notice a few things vs a .1
1) It's geared lower, so it will feel more torqy, but you have to shift a few more times.
2) More power, mine in stock form dyno'd at 420 SAE smoothing 5, vs a 0.2 GT3 at 390.
3) Because the gearing is shorter, its a bit easier to heal toe on the street
4) Fuel mileage suffers from gearing and massive aero compared to .1.
5) Single mass fly wheel and pressure plate combo causes some very noticeable rattling when in neutral. If you don't like noises it will be annoying, but if you can train yourself to think that the noise make it feel like a race car, it adds a bit to the experience.
6) (I'm not sure if the .1RS is the same) The interior is noisier, there is virtually no sound deadening material - which is how they trimmed a bit of weight. The radio is pretty useless IMO. But it's glorious, especially with headers and a center bypass.
7) You don't get as many stares - could be a bad thing for you, I don't know. The .2RS comes in lame uninspired colors.

^ I won't go as far as prius's and minivans(hate both ESP the mindset of one driving one like they own the road) go but street driving a gt3 is a borefest even canyon carving. They belong in the track. But if you are inclined to get one for the street only(ugh)- mite as well go for the rs. Sounds like you have the funds for the rs so why not? Mike

Mooty = truth speak.
I asked the question of Shark Alex after getting the .1. Now, I have both and made the .1 a 3.9. Shorter gearing, more torque, but they are both absolutely great cars. Might I add, the cars are even more incredible with Alex's secret Evo headers. Both have them...
