Default First drive in my new '10 RS

So, after four years dreaming of one day owning a GT3 RS 3.8, I've finally been able to put one in my garage. I picked the car up in LA just about a month ago, and set right out to put on some fun miles on the way back to SF. I found what looked like a perfect little squiggle, hwy 58, connecting the 5 and 101, and was quickly in heaven. Here's a shot from the start of 58.

Leaving Paso Robles and heading towards cambria, I detoured off 46 as there was too much traffic stacked up behind a RV. The backroad turned out to be beautiful, but unfortunately a little too narrow and bumpy for the liking of the RS. After repeated scraping sounds, and just before getting into Cambria, all of a sudden there was a continuous scraping noise. I thought, crap, there goes the splitter on day 1! Checking the front, the splitter was still there, and instead part of the undertray connecting into the fender liner had been ripped and folded backwards. I temporarily bent it back into shape along the side of the road, and at a servo station in Cambria, jacked up the car and zip tied everything back together. Good to go, except I must not have placed the jack perfectly and pulled the side sill slightly out whack. So, add a new side sill to the replacement part list too!

I continued the drive heading up HWY 1 through Big Sur, but was limited to having short little fun blasts between all the clusters of summer traffic. From Santa Cruz I had a final fun blast along small bacroads and Skyline all the way to 92.

In all, the normal 5 hour drive between LA and SF turned into about 9 hours with all the detours, and the constant fueling stops, but it was 9 hours of pure joy!

I've had the car for about a month now, and have been doing my best to daily drive her. Only need to make a concession and take the m3 when I need to fit some surfboards in the back, or pull out the 964 for a day here and there, if she's feeling neglected. I even managed to use the RS to help with the house move from SF to the santa cruz mountains. Amazing how much you can fit around the roll cage and in the front seat.

So, what's next? Would love to get out to the track, and meet up with some of the other RS owners for some back road blasts. The first weekend back home in SF I was walking to check the surf at OB, and actually heard and then saw two gen 1 RS's cruising by on great hwy - one orange, and one green. Wish I could have quickly jumped in mine to join.

Hope to run into some of the other rennlisters over the coming months. I'll be at Sonoma on Sept 6th with SpeedSF, but will likely be taking the m3. I want to do an auto x or T-hill for the first time with the RS, as I'm not good at holding back, and the walls at Sonoma are a little close when finding those limits for the first time.

As for plans for the car. I'm looking to do the following, so if anyone is selling any of the below, hit me up:

- porsche carbon sports buckets, or Recaro, Sparco, etc.
- Front 4.0 canards
- New wheels, Gold center BBS motorsports, and a set of GMG or HRE centerlocks
- Oh, fender liner, and passenger side sill....

Welcome! 58 is one of my favorite roads. It's the first place I was able to actually feel the downforce these cars create. Getting the car on track will only make you love it more. Looks like R888's on current wheels. Highly recommend NT-01's for new wheels.

If you're interested in joining a drive tomorrow AM, PM me. Small group of RL's in attendance including a legendary one from this board

Congratulations and enjoy! I recognise that car. If you weren't so far north I'd gladly take my black one for a drive with you.

Best,

Vivian.

Thx for the kudos on the new ride. Car had about 11,800 miles when I picked it up. And, yes, I know the beast will be demanding some pricey special treatments!

Nice RS!

Stay away from the Norcal crew, especially Mooty, listen to nothing he says unless you have no love for your hard earned $ :-)

That sill, usually a tap with the fist will set it right. Sometimes the jack arm will push on it when lowering and cause it to bend an push out a bit. Usually avoided by using a hockey puck on jack end. The jack point is recessed a bit.

Sooner or later, you will be seduced by the evil that is mooty. Just give in now.

Just asking. Where did you get the jack you speak of?
