I currently run OEM size RS3s from the closeout. They are a steal and will get me around the track in a hurry. I can hold 1.1G with them without a problem. I don't care that they are 2010 production. They work fine and last. Flip them and they last longer. I'll also run them backwards in the dry if I have been one direction for too many days.

I think it is good advise to start off with a street track tire. I ordered a set of the RS3's and got the close out deal. I am going to run these until I become more familiar with tracking the car then I will probably upgrade to something like the R6. I appreciate all the information, it was extremely helpful.

What he said !

A long arm low profile jack makes life easier

I jack the rear up by the engine case and am good to go - order hockey pucks for the jack points

I admit not reading this thread, but I did see something about jacking up the car by the engine??!! I really hope I misunderstood this part....NEVER NEVER NEVER jack up the car by the engine!!!!
Use the crossmember or something strong part of the chassis,NOT the engine!!!

997.1 not dynamic engine mount

Asked this question earlier and consensus was to jack up on the case

Other option is aluminum cross member connecting rear suspension - people like that better?

It doesn't matter it has dynamic engine mounts or not, just as it doesn't matter whether it's a Porsche,Hyundai,Honda,Audi...whatever....YOU NEVER JACK UP A CAR BY THE ENGINE!!!!

You need to understand the stresses you are putting on mounts, lines, transmission etc...not to mention to the case, oil pan etc.
The only time you put a jack underneath an engine is to support it if you're changing the mounts, dropping the tranny,or if you need to gain a few mm clearance by jacking up or lower down after disconnecting the mounts.
I hope I made myself clear...

Have giant torque wrench, floor jack, jack stands on order. I do have dynamic engine mounts. From reading another thread, it looks like there are jack points under the car. I would appreciate it if you could clarify.

Thanks

jack on rear jack point (right in front of rear tire)
out one stand under front jack point
put another jack under rear sub frame support.
repeat the other side

if no dynamic mount jack on split case I'd fine, this is how it's always been done on 911 dry sump engine until, dynamic showed up. this only applies to dry sump split cases, not non gt cars

however I prefer jacking rear jk pt and put support under sub frame, this way u jack 2x. if u jacked split case, u need to jack 3x to get car on jack.

Mooty,we can agree to disagree...

This is where you jack up rear so you can put jackstands on left and right jacking points : notice the big ol' silver crossmember behind that black stabilizer bar-right in the middle you put your jack. Not engine. It's not fine.

That's the aluminum subframe - I've also jacked up car from there - you need to be careful else you buy a new sway bar

Ultimately it's all not a big deal unless you are constantly jacking up the car then yes you don't want to be using the engine I agree
