^ +1, the reason I went with a 996 is the 'connectedness'.
I grew up driving 930, 914's, 951's, 911's etc....996GT's ranks right at top with 930's for feel...new school speed, old school experience.
Of course it is subjective, and these are machines-new or old, can be incorrectly setup for the worse..
Cheers,
Rob

One criteria I would add to the matrix is build quality. I have a few 993s and a couple of GT3s, including a RS 4.0. While the GT3s run away from the 993s in terms of speed, safety, and comfort, build quality and materials are better in the 993s.

Side by side, if I did not know any better and design and mechanical cues aside, based purely on how the cars have "aged", it would not be a no-brainer to say which is the newer car. Granted, most of my cars are low mileage, but they are all driven as intended. Over time Porsche has reduced the over engineering in these cars.

Your first mistake was to try to rationalize this hobby. Decide with your heart, not with a matrix.

nice exercise.
but of the 22 posts above only one is correct, post 20.
i spend 15 years compare very very high end stereo equipment and wrote articles for them; comparing minute details trying to find the holy grail... but really if you have to compares cars by saying one has dead LSD, one is better at legal speed, one is build better, one is on wrong tires... you are missing the point. it's really gestalt that matters. if it's right you know it's right. a beautiful woman can be fully clothes, naked, dead, alive, yours or others.. she remains beautiful. a great car is a great car, you feel it. the minute you try to justify, qualify or quantify, they no longer make sense.

drive them, and if none feels RIGHT, sell them, keep buy and sell until your heart tells you that's the right one.

haha, my dad is Chinese/Indo, conversion shouldn't be too hard!

I mean that sarcastically^^ its opposite for Indo's.. the elders buy the kids an apartment in the city, new prestige car, university and allowance.....

I didn't get that options BTW ^^

Mooty, that's great advice. The three times I've fallen in love with cars, they've been bought with no thinking and only on gut feel. In 2004, my friend called in the morning to say his new car arrived early and I have 3hrs to decide if I want his 993 Turbo. I went to the bank, took out a LOC and bought his car.

Almost the same with the 997 GT3; saw one while on a business trip and called a local dealer to say I want it. Found the funds to pay for it after the fact. The one time I thought about a car for a long time, my 964 Turbo, it turned out to be a negative experience when I finally owned it. I hated that car.

You're right on the money with this comment for sure. I had a non-power steering '91 NSX which I loved dearly for it's feel and particularly it's shifting. Went through a '99 996 Cab and '01 996 TT without much love. But once I got the 997 GT3 the NSX was knocked down to #2 on my all time favorites list. I LOVE the feel of the 3 when diving into a corner and knocking off 2 lightning fast heel and toe downshifts. BUTTA!
