The Vette has always been a euro competitor. Lots of power, attractive price.

A lot of car for the money. A world beater.

The experience of driving a vette is the thrill of the power (in a big car...)

The experience of driving a 911 is all about the steering feel (in a little car...)

I like the little car experience and awesome steering feel of the 911. I cant see myself going back to vettes or vipers...

The Z06 should be a force to deal with on the track. Would have concerns about track durability though - guy brought a C7 to my last track weekend and it only made it through 2 runs before developing an oil leak.

Well depends on where you're using this car, really. Stateside is about the only place on earth with the knowhow and tuning experience to support Corvettes for track use.

Did a bit of Googling about how a 991 compares to a non-Z06 C7:

Vette Width: 77.4 inches.
Vette Length: 176.9 inches.
Vette Height: 48.6 inches.
Vette Weight: 3100 lbs (Z06. I read different posts about this..final weights could be more or less depending on options. CF brakes vs iron etc.)

991 Width: 71.2
991 Length: 176.8
991 Height: 51.3
991 Weight (2wd): 3040 lbs

Bottom line: a c7 is basically the same size/ weight as a 991. I was expecting the Vette to be wider. It is. A z06 will be even wider vs the normal c7. I was expecting the Vette to be lower vs the Porsche. It is. What I AM surprised by is the length and weight. Virtually the same.

Compared to the new 991 they are comparable in specifications, however once you sit behind the wheel of a vette you will know what i mean by "big".......

When it came time to trade my wifes 09 911 S Cab we test drove a 991S. Lots to love about it to be sure. We decided against it (and she picked up a classic MB)

The 991 felt more GT than the 997. Too big, too soft. Brilliant GT car. Long drive up the coast...991. It was shortly there after that I bought the 997.2 RS. I realized that the RS was truly the last of its kind....until the z06.

If you think you're crazy for wanting a C7 Zo6 then save a straight jacket for me. There is nothing else this side of $100K, new or pre-owned, I would consider to replace my 7.1 GT 3. I saw the car in person at the Detroit Show and have decided that I will need one. I bought a new Zo6 in '06 for $70K and as much as it was a step forward for GM, the seats were crap, the run flat Goodyears were crap, the interior was mostly plastic and the car felt cheap, albeit at roughly half the price of my $140K '07 GT3. So why is it that every time I drove that beast with its 427 engine I had a huge smile on my face?

I have no interest in the new 2 pedal GT3 and if going a few tenths quicker on a track is what mattered to me I'd get a dedicated race car and just be done with it. Today's GT3 is the same size as the 928 that Porsche stopped building nearly 20 years ago and both now require antifreeze. Parked beside a new 991, a 964 or 933 of that era appears positively dwarfed, almost like a 4/5 scale model. So much for the air cooled cars, Metzger engines and manual gearboxes. Long live the 911.

I don't think you are crazy. I love my 997.1GT3 and last year tracking 13 times finally feel comfortable with the H/T technique and learning how this car carves up the corners. But now I have in addition a c7 Z51 MT, magnetic ride stingray which I have taken to the track once and was surprised how well it did in the corners. I am in Las Vegas for a 2 day level 2 Ron fellows corvette track school at spring mountain motorsports ranch driving their Z 51s.
So the OP is not nuts I think.
The Z06 will be even more a beast. 650hp supercharged.
Btw GM discounts the track school $1K for all new purchasers of the new stingray good for one year from purchase.
