dead battery
Went out to the shop to put all the books back into the glove box of my recently purchased GT3. I had just finished reading them. The car was completely dead, used the key to get in then put it in the ignition, which was a mistake. So I opened the book and went through the process of opening the boot and getting the key out of the ignition. This all resulted from leaving the radar detector plugged in. In my other cars, the accessory plug goes off when the ignition is switched off. Now I know.

I don't use a trickle charger either. Just replace the battery when it won't hold a charge.
My V1 has been powered for 3 years using the following method:

Don't bother with chargers or worrying about killing batteries.
Open doors (to lower windows), disconnect your negative lead, place towel under hood so it doesn't accidently get closed, and leave doors unlocked. You're good to go for pretty much as long as you want (excluding fuel and tire breakdown in the extreme).

Just went to start the car this AM- was plugged in to Porsche tender and car locked. Hadn't driven it for about a month.
When I got in, turned key to start, no turning over- sport chrono gauge turning backwards, lots of weird clicking sounds. Turned key back off- tried to open front trunk with no luck.
Let it sit for a minute, opened door and luckilly enough juice to open front trunk. Took out battery (original) and 4 of the cells had very little water. Had never checked before as I thought it was a maintenance free battery. Probably sitting in a HOT AZ garage ain't good for a battery!!
Got a new sealed battery at Autozone- car then started right up, but gave me traction control and dynamic corner light failure warnings- luckily they cleared after a mile or so.
Isn't it better to keep the car locked if you're not going to drive it again for a while? I read somewhere the current draw is less than leaving it non-locked as the car "figures" it won't be driven for a while...

Yeah they supposedly go to sleep when locked. Gotta check water levels. Only real maint free are Agm, gel, or lion.
I've had good luck with autozone gold batteries. Decent warranty too.

You can buy the batteries at Walmart.
I drove my car about 3 weeks ago. After I pull into the garage I get out of the car, leave the key in the ignition so I can turn the steering wheel and push the car to it's resting place. I forgot to take the key out this time however, the ignition was turned to off. My battery was dead. Fortunately my window was down. I followed the jump procedure and got the hood up. 2 days on the charger and it was good to go.
By the way, i've killed two Porsche chargers. They didn't last more than a year. I now use Battery Tenders.
