Default Tires and Factory Warranties

While my car is in for a check engine light, I asked the dealer to give me a price on Michelin PSS. He gave me a not so good price and a few days later told me that if I changed from the Michelin Cup tires to the MPSS it would void my factory warranty because they were not "N" rated.. How could this be. Anyone else heard of this nonsense?
Thank you.

Remind your "dealer" of the Magnuson Moss warranty act http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magnuson–Moss_Warranty_Act, specifically the provision that states, section C:
http://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/15/2302

c) Prohibition on conditions for written or implied warranty; waiver by Commission
No warrantor of a consumer product may condition his written or implied warranty of such product on the consumer’s using, in connection with such product, any article or service (other than article or service provided without charge under the terms of the warranty) which is identified by brand, trade, or corporate name; except that the prohibition of this subsection may be waived by the Commission if—
(1) the warrantor satisfies the Commission that the warranted product will function properly only if the article or service so identified is used in connection with the warranted product, and
(2) the Commission finds that such a waiver is in the public interest.
The Commission shall identify in the Federal Register, and permit public comment on, all applications for waiver of the prohibition of this subsection, and shall publish in the Federal Register its disposition of any such application, including the reasons therefor.

A friend of mine has a 997.2 GT3 with brand new MPSS that had N2 on them, so there are Porsche spec MPSS. Do you have a WB?

Are you sure they were MPSS? N2 means a couple iterations, the ones listed are N0, there are some N0 SS, but not in .2 GT3 sizes, at least OEM fitment:

I think your dealer made a false assertion. A Porsche dealer installed PSS on my old 997.2 gt3, which were not n-spec. I have only heard non n-spec tires causing an issue when returning a car off lease.

Yup. MPSS and they said N2. I checked Tire Rack and only see N0. I even looked on Michelin website and see nothing about anything for N2. 235/35 and 305/30-19. I was kind of surprised to see N2 as it is the 3rd version, but they clearly said N2. So, I cannot find them online, but I can certainly grab a picture and get the name of dealer in South Florida where he bought his car with CPO.

Never mind - head up ***. I had a brain fart. I went back and looked at his tires. PS2 with N2 rating, not PSS. Sorry for any confusion.

This is big in the UK. The PCGB won't issue the warranty without N rated tyres. First time I have heard of it in the US.
