Default TPMS Question

The car's been sitting for a wee bit and I had a little time today to get her out.

My TPMS system is in the learning process and can't get the pressures from the tires. Is this a sign that I need new ones?

Had the same problem with my 997TT recently; sat for 7 weeks, when I drove it next it jumped between disabled and learning. Turns out my right rear TPMS battery had died, which disabled TPMS. Get hold of a Durametric cable and check the remaining battery in all 4, for me one was flat and the other three had 4-6 months. I'm currently ignoring the alert and will order a new set of ITM from OEWheels as a replacement.

If you don't have a problem with checking your tire pressure manually with a quality gauge, you might consider having the TPMS system deactivated. It costs less than one 433Mhz sensor - then there is the tire dismount/remount/balancing on top of that.

My sensors started dying last Fall. I routinely check the air pressure, which is more accurate than the sketchy TPMS. One less electronic nanny to deal with now!

Thanks! I may look into deactivating it, which I'm thinking is getting that light to turn off.

The shop you use will need to have either a Porsche PIWIS diagnostic tester or a Durametric Pro (Professional version). My shop charged $100 which I felt was a bargain.

Looks like I have one faulty sensor after mine sat all winter as well. I was trying to decide whether to replace one (or perhaps more) sensor(s) or just have my indy shop disable the warning light...
I'm like Jack and check tire pressures manually as well, so the decision may be easy.
