So yesterday I go into a local SOCAL dealer I know to take a look at 997.2 GT3 he just received for a consignment sale. Long story short, the car wasn't for me.
So we get to talking about the 991 GT3 sitting in his showroom, and I asked him when I could place an order for the new 991 GT3RS. He looked at me and said, "Sometime in 2015, but they're only available for purchase for buyers who have purchased a 918." Well... there go my plans!
^^ Not sure if that is news to you guys, but it sure was for me.

Buyers who purchased a 918 Spyder DO get first right of refusal on any special Porsche, including the RS. That's part of Porsche's new program to be more like Ferrari (along with not offering a manual gearbox).
I wouldn't go so far as to say that they will ONLY be available to 918 buyers, but I would guess that the vast majority of them will get snapped up by them before they are available to the 'general public'.
Didn't you guys read about their 'VIP' program in your 918 brochure?

Seems to be a partial truth. As others have said, a dealer long ago accepted my deposit for one. 2015 is probably right on timing (if they get the GT3 engine sorted). Otherwise it will be a 992.1

In my opinion, the 918 Spyder VIP program is not as amazing as many people are making it out to be. It is pretty cool, nonetheless, but it has some unfortunately annoying restrictions.
You are allowed to exercise your VIP-ness once per year, per model line (911, Cayman, etc). That means only once in 2014, once in 2015, for one and only one 911 in 2014, and one and only one in 2015, otherwise you're just like everyone else. That's a dealbreaker for me, and makes the barrier to entry into this VIP program not worth it (well, except for the fact that you get an amazing car, the 918 Spyder, in the process).
If it's a limited edition vehicle (500 cars or less), then you can exercise this option once per model, regardless of the # of model years exist.
Also, you can only exercise this option at the dealership you bought your 918 Spyder from. That's not as big of a problem unless you bought it from someone who later turned out to be an a-hole.![Smilie](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)

There's a lot in SoCal, so make this guy pay by taking your business elsewhere.

Between the latest products and reliability I have lost most of my lifetime enthusiasm for the brand. Ridiculous "programs" demonstrate they aren't interested in me as a customer. It's not often that I have had mutual break-ups, but it sure looks like this relationship is headed that way...
