New GT3RS?

This is what my dealer told me as well. Had me on a list with a deposit. Couple months ago he called to say their RS allocations would be going to 918 buyers. He offered me a NB GT3 instead. Told him to forget it and got my $ back.

Sooooo what we have here are a group of buyers who after dropping $1M on a 918 will get to recoup a chunk of that cash by getting first dibs on a car they will almost certainly valuate and sell for max profit.
Guess that will leave a lot of enthusiasts out in the cold or paying astronomical prices.....NO???

Sounds like (another) desperate attempt to sell 918's
Judging from Porsche's tactics they must have a ton of these things yet to sell
One of the dealers in Atlanta---5th largest in the country-has yet to sell a 918, in a city of 6M+ people.

My understanding is any 918 buyer requests for the RS or other highly desireable models adds to the dealers allocation of the car and doesn't use up an allocation already earned. If you're correct then it sounds like Porsche believes they can sell all the cars they want to 918 buyers and they don't care about or need anyone else's business......I find that hard to believe since Porsche has not soldout of the 918 yet. In fact I have had more than one dealer offer a significant referral bonus for any 918 buyers.

With 21" rears, an engine based on the disastrous GT3 unit and a suggested $50-100k increase on the previous model, is it even a track enthusiast's kind of car??? IMO, Porsche can have them for their 918 buyers if that's how they intend doing business moving forward...

For the same $1mm, I'd rather have a 458, 650S, SLS, 991 cup, Z8, and a upcoming Z06 and maybe a Alpha 4C depending on how good of a negotiator I was .

All these dealers saying this crap are trying to hawk 991 GT3's instead of having more clients putting down deposits on cars a year+ out. That's my only explanation. Greed and short-sightedness.
It's impossible for a dealer, right now, to say that all their 991 GT3 RS allocs will be taken up by 918 buyers. How many 918's has that single dealer sold?! Even then, they don't even know how many (or how few) allocations for the 991 GT3 RS they'd get, so it's all bogus talk right now.
Ignore the idiots. Find real dealers who value your business. You may have to go out of your region, or out of your state for this (I've done so many times with respect to BMW's, Mercedes-AMG's, and Porsches because of this crap).

as much as i love p cars, three generation of buyers and a LOT of cars, the dilution, "tricks", main stream marketing is really making me thinking of going elsewhere.
not sure what you are all looking for. but i didn't buy p cars to be fast. dollar for dollar, it's one of the slowerst cars out there and the technololgy it has isn't all that great either. take a look at honda motorcycle or honda lawnmower... more tech in there! i buy p car b/c the ppl, the culture, the stuff that's AROUND the car, not the car itself. now the stuff AROUND the car is gone...... and the buying pool of newer p cars are buying appliances not cars or passion.

Sad to say, but you also need a new dealer.

I am betting we have the same dealer. First, IMHO, this dealer is excellent, I have had nothing but good experiences re communication, keeping every commitment, again, exceptional. I have had a deposit since last year, and was in good shape on the list. I also received the call to say my allocation was going to a 918 customer. I said I would leave my deposit just in case, they said thats not going to happen, sold out. I feel very fortunate to have my current RS.

Sidenote: If I sound bitter towards dealers, it's because I am. I've dealt with far too many, and far too many of them suck.
I have a couple in the US that I've worked with that don't suck, and I absolutely love them. The world needs more of them. (There are more than 2 in the US, of course, that are awesome.)
