Default R888s on track in the rain?

Cross-posting here since this forum seems more active than 996TT.

First DE of the season on Thursday. Rain in the forecast (it's Portland, after all). Trying to decide whether to put the R888s on or just run the expensive and not very durable PilotSports. Anyone have experience running R888s in the rain?

R888 is better in wte than PS, provided it's full read.

Mooty is driving god. The rest of us mortals, stay away from 888s in the wet. Unless you're out there doing granny laps these things will catch you unaware and put you into a wall. Seen way too many bad endings here as 888s are rather common in Asia.

My two cents: 888's are Trofeo-R's fast when new. In 5 heat cycles they're just slightly better than new MPSS'es. I'd run it only as a last-ditch dry-only tire.

Ran relatively new r888 at the march road Atl rainfest. They did ok. Hoosier wets would be first choice but if u don't want dedicated rain tire the r888 will work as rain/intermediate/backup dry

Have run DE's in the rain on R888....NO NO NO...a street tire like a Yokohama AD08 would work better. R888 all around is just not a great tire.

ok in wet when new-ish.
no good at all when a bit worn.
tracking in the rain is a totally different game. survival game.

+1. I was honestly surprised how much grip the NT-01's had in the wet.

for me it would come down to how long and safe is the drive to the track (assuming you are driving not trailering)

i personally take the approach in the rain to practice sliding the car so less grip is better - make it a practice day for counter steering - thus for me r888, assuming there is some tread, would be better

if these are new tires they should be fine to drive to the track and thus fine for the track

if they are worm with little tread, don't street drive them and therefore your tire choice is easy

i want to repeat again that it is a completely different approach - i.e. i love rain as i just think of it as a drifting practice day

as a complete aside, I like many on here do not like the R888 tire and I personally would not buy it again
