My car is at the dealer over the weekend and want to work on this little project...

Looking to build a little cradle to put my iPhone on the rear "seat" shelf to hold my it while it runs the Harry's Laptimer at the track. In this position it has a good view of the sky for ideal GPS signal...

Easiest would be if the carpet attracts velcro... If not can I safety pin the cradle to the carpet? Any risk of piercing anything under the carpet in that area?

Dont want to mount it anywhere in my view so its not a distraction...

No, not well. I tried.

I have one of these I used 3x before getting an AIM GPS/Timer. Works really well and increases gps sample rate from 1 to 4 times/sec. Much better for use with HLT. I turn on the GPS receiver, and used double sided tape to stick in somewhere in view of sky (its really light), battery will run it most of day), connect HLT to gps, stuff iPhone in the center console and go.

I glued the hook end of Velcro all over my track mat hoping it would stick on the carpet. No dice. The track mat slides all over the place.
