It really depends on the intended usage. My 997.1 GT3 is fairly comfortable and I have driven hundreds of interstate miles without issue. If you live and drive in a mostly rural setting, you should not have any problem making it a daily driver. If you battle traffic, stop and go urban jungle, then the heavy clutch and everything that makes this car delightful on the open road will be unpleasant.
As long as your wife has the expectation that this is a sports car, then you should be fine. On long trips you may need to stop more frequently to stretch your legs.
Turbo is definitely more of a road car. Much has been said on this forum comparing the GT3/Turbo. The turbo is the better choice for comfort and ease of use. The GT3 is the enthusiasts choice.

The GT3 in up without doubt a pure driving vehicle. By the same token, it is stiffer by far than a Turbo.
If you want a track car/not often used street car the GT3 is a good choice, but if you're taking long trios often, using it daily for commuting or whatnot, the Turbo has little to zero competition.
Please understand I'm not putting the GT3 down, it's a remarkably capable car, but for everyday use. Trips and such the Turbo is right at home.

If the '64 E-Type is a DHC would you trade even up for a 993TT OR 997.1 GT3 ? Just curious.

My wife never has complained about the ride, but does mention road noise, etc. When I had my Elise, she would complain about getting in and out, but never about the "ride."

Go for it.

Ride is subjective, but your wife would probably like the ride of a 997 Turbo more and the quieter environment. I find mine has a better ride on my several long road trips than I expected (really bad roads would be the exception). I think it's great as I want to be involved in the experience. (Equipped with Adaptive Sport Seats and MPSS tires). Long ways from my old air cooled SC. I like that you totally are totally engaged with the car including feeling the road and not uninvolved. Wife still won't drive the GT3 with the stiff clutch and stick, but that suits me fine! So if she's not a driver, maybe give a GT3 and a Turbo a try for yourself.

I have had the 64 e-type since 1974, restored it in the farm shop before the internet. I managed to survive my young adult hood in it ,so now it is a part of my life.

You're not going to like the front spoiler bottoming on the GT3 unless you have the lift kit. The front spoiler is $400, so consider it a consumable, like gas. Me, I grew tired of that as a DD. The TT is a much better ride on the street.

My wife uses a MY08 C4S as her DD and loves it. She REALLY loves the ride though of my RS. Still a personal preference, she needs to take a spin first.

My '07 GT3 RS definitely feels every bump in the road. It feels significantly stiffer than my scuderia. The 07 GT3 has a harsher ride than my CGT, probably because of the wheel base difference. The 3.8 GT3 feels a little softer with more of a refined ride. Porsche must have changed dampers between 3.6 and 3.8?

Don't do it.
Use a GT3 for racing, canyon driving not touring with your wife.

Ride is too hard
Too loud
Sound system sucks

I went from racing a 2010 GT3 to weekending a 14' Boxster....much more relaxed and refreshed when I arrive. You can only go so fast on the street.

Maybe a 991 911 flavor.

Gt3 tracking YES !
Weekend with wife NO!

My wife has been in my RS once when we went to dinner at a track buddy's house and we were asked to drive our cars. Her response after we returned from this one hour round trip drive was " Please do not make me ride in the stage coach again." She is all for me owning it, just doesn't appreciate riding in it. That was over a year ago.

My 997.2 GT3 is much stiffer than my Elise with standard suspension. In fact, I would say it's borderline harsh. It's also loud enough to make conversation difficult during highway cruising. I'm sure that a change from Sport Cup to Supersport tires would help on both dimensions, but as kosmo said above, the fact that you are asking the question suggests that you would be happier with something else.
