Am I correct in thinking that the pistons should be fine since they have no metal on metal contact, but he ceramic pucks are probably deteriorated if the factory seals are melted (50k miles)? There is also no way to just buy the pucks... right?

The RacingBrake pistons are designed to run w/o ceramic pucks?
If so, not having the pucks means the SS pistons see a lot more radiant heat from the brake pad backing plate. Is the difference in thermal conductivity between AL with Ceramic pucks and just a SS piston still in favor of SS?
Brembo AL pistons dont work w/o ceramic pucks?

BMW 135i has the same "puck" in its front 6-piston calipers and this is how it looks after some not too heavy braking:
Reason for those pucks is to shield the heat from brake pads to pistons because aluminum pistons has good heat conductivity (about 10 times of stainless steel), but is cheaper to produce.
RB stainless steel pistons have become the most popular upgrade replacement in 135i community:

There are two different pucks. The Motorsports rebuild kits come with the original yellow pucks that are indestructible - same as the OEM units on my RS's PCCB kit. Some folks have mentioned that there are another type of puck - black ones that crumble like in the thread pics. I don't know the P/N of either sets, but I have verified that the motorsports rebuild kit come with the yellow kind.
