Help! Buying 997.2 GT3 RS with type 2 over revs
What are your thoughts on purchasing a 997.2 RS with type 2 over revs? Car is a 2011 with less than 8k miles. PPI checked out good but I only received one sheet of PPI info from the seller and a portion of the working log where the ignition ranges are cutoff for some strange reason. See previous thread for image: https://rennlist.com/forums/997-gt2-...pi-report.html
The only reason I know it has type 2 is because the service advisor verbally told me over the phone. I should have the full sheet via the dealer on Monday. Would love to hear your thoughts. Thanks!

Alot is said about type 2 overrevs and people are often scared away from a car that has them. If the car only has a few of them, I dont think it's a big deal and would be fine. But if the car has spent extended amounts of time in type 2 range then that would point to the car being driven hard and thats when you started to question if the car's right for you. Type 2 overrevs can also be a bargaining chip for you to try to negotiate down the price, if it's a car that's really nice and only has a few Type 2 overrevs. The fact that this particular cars owner/dealer negated to give you the page that shows the Thpe 2 overevvs makes me wonder what he's hiding. It's definitely good that you got the dealsr to send you the full report. Good luck!

There's nothing wrong with range 2 over revs. You do not have to worry.
FYI, PDK cars get range 2 over revs as well. You can try using it as a bargaining tool, but I'm sure it will not work.

Very simple decision. Ask Porsche if they would warranty the motor if it blew up with a type 2 overrev. If they won't, then.....
My understanding is that until its a level 4, no biggie. There are worse things that happen to babied Rs motors (actuator bolts....)

pls range two only happens on up shift.
I shift after I bounce off rev limiter. it's fine.
level four, the driver has not mastered blip and shift. should drive slush box

Thanks everyone. We shall see. Waiting for the actual DME. How do I know if it's an actual DME for the car? Should the vin be on the form? The incomplete report I got posted earlier on RL had a date of November, but the DME was run later.

There is a very nice review of over revs in the EXCELLENCE magazine as well. I believe besides what has already been commented on, the article states that if there have been a lot of engine run time since an over rev has occurred, with no engine issues, there should be no cause for concern.

Thanks, brake dust. Would you happen to have a link or the issue of the mag?
