Friends don't let friends drive R888's.

But seriously R888's have been having a tread seem split issue...Toyo took back 6 R888's from me earlier this year. Plus they heat cycle out at around 7-8 cycles. Nitto NT01 for some reason don't have this heat cycle issue as quick as R888's do and the Nitto's don't split the tread seem.

I picked up NT01s for my 993 and love them. I usually run Hoosier R6s.

I tried those out in January 2012. Uh....I was faster on the horrid Toyo R888. If you must stay with stock 19" R- Compound rubber I know guys that liked the Pirelli Corsa but I'm reading that the Dunlop Sport Max is really good too.

for the track on a street drivable tire the Nitto NT01 is really far superior. Only a Hoosier R6 is a 1-2 seconds faster on the track.

I have gone through two sets of Toyo R888. They worked for a short period of time.

Nitto NT01 have been good to me.
MPSC are too expensive. They are stupid.

All these tires suck in the rain FWIW….

NT01 in a 245/40/18 and 305/35/18. I got 38 session on my last set. Pretty slick the first and last couple of session but great bang for the buck.. $1000 a set out the door..

I need to replace my completely worn R 888's on my GT3. They held up for entire season, over 40 heat cycles including driving to/from tracks, including two lengthy trips. My experience with these tires over the past few years has been very good (used on my prior street/track car) so I wonder if I am unique or there are differences in set up or driving techniques. I had MPSS on the car for one season (came with car) and the Toyo's lasted as long and performed better - at the track.

RS3s are great street tires that you can take to track on 19 inch wheels. Can't beat the price, wear, and performance. NT01s are the way to go if you are going to run 18 inch wheels.

Yes there are set up differences with R888 over other R-Comp tires. R888 has a very stiff sidewall and you have to use less camber. Also any toe out in the front really chews them up so zero toes works best for R888.

Example...with my Nitto NT01 I use -2.6 front and -2.3 rear and am getting great tire wear. R888 I used -2.3 front and that was almost too much so -2 worked good with around -1.9 in the rear.

I have used R888 since 2008 till this year. After around 7 track days the R888's were starting to show less grip. The rears lasted 7 days but not near cording but needed replaced. I could have pushed probably another day. Also this was mostly at Sebring were this track is harder on tires. So maybe your track is easy on tires or maybe 7-10 DE's is a season for you?

Tire out the Nitto NT01 next. They have much more grip than R888 during all heat cycles. Enjoy!...Nitto is a sister company of Toyo by the way.

Will Nitto ever make a 325, 335, or 345 NT01s for RS cars? They have them for the NT05s. Why are the 335 RA1s no longer made?

The RS3s are great, but I heat cycle them out well before I cord them. Some killer deals on them in certain sizes as the 140 tread wear ones get unloaded.

RS guys need to start emailing Nitto. I and many other emailed Nitto countless times over a year or so about the 305-35-18 tires. They finally listened and made them. There are other cars that use the 305/35/18 so that helped too. Do some research and find out what other cars use 325/335 30 or 35 18 and let Nitto know.

what width and offset are folks running with 18's? I looked at finspeed, and they appear to only offer 18x9 which is 1/2" wider than oem. are folks running 18x9 with 245/40 and 18x11 with 305/35?

I run 245/40/18 and 305/35/18 NT01s on 18x9x12 CCWs. That's on a 996 so offsets will be different for 997. 11s would be a little narrow for the 305 which sits square on a 12.
