Default Found a 2007 GT3, 41k, CPO. What do you guys think?

So been looking for a 2007, white GT3. Three main requirements have been White, NAV, Xenon. PCCB would have been nice...

Late Tuesday night I got notified one went up in the Porsche.com Preowned database. Wed morning 8 am I was on the phone with the dealer.

DME report shows zero ignitions in any of the ranges, as others have said, with 41k miles and no over-rev ignitions it has probably has been a daily driver.

They are asking $74,950 with the CPO. Car is still pending CPO inspection. They did say the bodyshop expert had noticed it had at some point some paint work/blending on the doors, minor and only seem when doing a detailed inspection... We will see.

Here are some prelim pictures taken on a gloomy day. Not a huge fan of the black wheels and the tint almost looks like its limo tint. But ill wait to see it in person.

Friend saw it yesterday afternoon and said the car looks great and is in very good condition. Seats and steering wheel do show some wear, which I expected... But overall very good.

Of course I would have preferred lower miles, PCCB, silver wheels... but other then that it seems really good. I think the CPO is a big benefit for me and a large safety net knowing if a strut goes, oil leak, head light goes out or something else the CPO warranty will pay for repairs that on just about any other 2007 would be paid out of pocket....

What do you guys think?

I was under the impression that paint work was an automatic DQ for CPO qualification so it must be very minor which is good. The DME report you referenced doesn't get any better than that so big + there. However, if the car fails CPO I'd walk on it. Warranty on these cars can save you thousands of $$$ which then begs the next question. How do you intend to use the car? Don't expect to get much love on your CPO if you go back to your dealer with warranty issues they can claim are track related (e.g. Money shifts, PP/clutch wear, trans.,etc...). however, if this is going to be a weekend GT tourer with some occasional track use, I think you might have a really nice, higher mileage GT3 you can have a lot of fun with for a long time

Will do some CPO research over the weekend and then by mid week I should have the report.
It will be exactly that, daily GT tourer (Will also have a daily/utility car) with a handful of track events per year.... Even if it was new I think the warranty love due to track use would be minimal.... Or does Porsche have lots of love for its tracked (new) GT cars?

You will get plenty of different responses from RL members on the love, or lack there of, they got from their dealers on track related warranty work. In my experience there is a huge difference between the US and Europe. In Germany my dealer has a dedicated tech just for guys that DO track their cars. This includes all the normal track related things you would expect: alignment, brakes, set up, safety check before your event, etc.....all of this was on condition you were using OEM parts and weren't abusing the car e.g. Money shifts and wear items are not covered.

In the US if I mentioned track support and/or warranty work (and this was on a bought new car) I always got the feeling it was caveat emptor almost every time.

I once bought a 997 turbo right out of the dealer showroom that was CPO for $100K only to find out 2 weeks later the entire car was repainted!

I had the to get Porsche Car North America involved and ended up getting a full refund from the dealer.

Have paint metered by a specialist to get the full story. Make sure to get it on a lift and check under car for any accident damage. Porsche will allow 1 or 2 panels to be painted for CPO. I forget which. Steering wheel can be recovered or replaced for not a lot. Wheels can be refinished not big $. Pccb on gen 1 cars come with the benefit of larger front rotors which is good for track use and easy to swap to steel. Maybe you can ask dealer to remove the ghetto tint, repiant the wheels, and new alcantara steering wheel as part of the deal.

With CPO price seems ok if everything checks out. Personally I like non bubble wrap cars as I like to drive them. My rs has higher miles and i keep driving the crap out of it.

Good luck!

Great idea. Will find an independent person to come measure paint thickness!

They are still doing the inspection so we will see what they replace, refinish ect...

Ask them for readings on the whole car in multiple places on every panel and door jams. You should get at least 30 measurements.

Btw CPO will not refinish anything. Some dealers may fix curb rash or repaint a bumper. They will get maintenance current and replace any needed items like brakes. Also check porsche CPO. It's better than BMWs but certain parts are not covered. Usually wear items.

cpo doesnt cover wear items (tires, brakes, wipers, battery, interior wear). otherwise, it's like new car warranty.

definitely don't depend on cpo to save you from any previous paintwork or accident history. the inspection is more about mechanical than anything else since that's what the warranty covers.

price seems fair but i think you can get a RS for not much more. RS is harder to find but obviously cooler.

lastly, 997.1 gt3 and gt3rs doesn't have psm. for this reason alone, i would buy a 997.2 gt3/rs. even on the track, psm can save your butt and given the car is not balanced, it's a great thing. i used to think psm is optional until i totaled mine and had another fren wrecked his as well. both of us are pretty good drivers but crap happens.

The dealer at which this GT3 is at services my Cayman, and they've been very good about making repairs that aren't necessarily covered by the CPO warranty. This includes one completely cosmetic interior repair.

I think that car should be 70k...simply because I've seen cars with half the miles for similar prices.

Make sure you take it for an extended test drive and get a feel for the transmission. The condition of it will directly depend on how well the previous owner(s) knew how to drive manual. That is one expensive component that will not show up on a DME report. The last thing you want to do is spend 10k you tried to save by buying a high mileage car on a tranny refresh.

Finally, if you don't feel good about the car, don't be afraid to eat the plane ticket money and walk away. Just saying because you are excited to jump into a car after being overseas and you definitely don't want to make a 75k mistake. Good luck.

Interesting. In the last 2 months I have not seen any 2007 with CPO and I figured that was worth a lot. The ones below $75 always had something off about them (no NAV, crash, tacky modifications...)
