Correct, also LWFW and a "published" about 40lb less weight...

997.2 sounds like the ticket and I compare the performace very close to a .2 RS.

for 100k you can have either a 997.1RS or a 997.2 non RS.

Both are great cars and performance is back to back unless you are top 10 driver at your local track.

You only have to ask yourself if you want the suble styling of the 997.2 for your weekend escapades or do you want the In-Your-Face appeal of the wide body 997.1RS?......

If that is your car in your Avatar, then id be looking for a orange 997.1RS to go with it.
(you maybe lucky enough to find an orange 997.2)

FWIW, 997.1RS has tried and tested 5 lug wheels as opposed to crappy centerlocks....

With the extra savings, I was able to do a few things like upgrade the LSD, get an exhaust, and put in some suspension goodies with a lot of money left over. If the car would mostly have been a track car, I would have opted for the .2 GT3 RS all day long. The .2 GT3 is actually a fairly comfortable car for driving around locally and still gets a good bit of looks.

.1 gt3
.1 RS
.2 gt3
Same final drive of 3.44

.2 RS
3.89 final drive and a revised 6th gear

I believe the op said street mostly and for 2 years or so before he will move on
If that is the case then I would buy the seller of the car and necessarily the .1RS vs .2gt3

They are similar enough for two years of street use that I would advise you to buy either in good condition first and good deal second from an owner you get a good feeling from

.1 variants rms leaks but that is easy to fix
.2 variants center locks and recalls - fine for street car and warranty fixes

I would probably buy a .2 gt3 over a stock .1RS and if that's the case I would be on serge's for street driving - pccbs, full leather, bone stock, and priced right... Looks great in red as well

I get a decent street 6gt3 for 55-60k plus a bsr. But if u really inclined on a 7- I probably do a regular 7.2 gt3- on paper and on track sans the CL's it's the better car if all stock. Mike

Buddy of mine has a 2010 997.2 GT3RS for sale. Car has been professionally maintained by BBI Autosport, has 31k miles, and is track ready with HRE wheels, Roll Bars, all solid links, race seats, harnesses, Brembo Type III rotors, Endless Pads, Cup Cables, etc.... I think he'll let it go for 105-110k.

He also has a set of BBS Centerlocks in Gold with less than 500 miles for sale.

PM me if interested.

I researched the hell out of this, talked to people, etc. Of course, opinions vary, but here is mine. Again, this is my conclusion, others will disagree.

- The jump from 997.1 to 997.2 is not insignificant...i.e. not a minor jump, so if you can afford to buy the latest generation, that is the right answer... several reasons why, but not without debate, etc.
- With $100k, you can find a nice example. If you are willing to spend $10k more you can buy the best available on the market (low miles, 1 owner, cpo cars, etc.). I decided to stretch.
- I lust for the RS. I came close to being irresponsible and buying one. Anywhere from $35-50k more. A lot more money. In this case, if no track time, I think its a waste. Would love the wide hips, would love the history of the badge, lower gearing, LWF, etc. But I think that the huge wing and decals are a bit much for street use, even weekend. The car just belongs on the track, and driving to/from it.

I think that the last mezger engine manual tranny GT3 is special...but there were many produced and so take your time to find a really great one. I bought mine from another Rennlister with about 4500 miles on it, and I am very happy with the purchase.
Lol, that is me earlier this year. Had ~100k budget, stretched it to 110+ to get my perfect .2. The siren song of .2 RS was strong and was very tempting, but wife reined me in. Having said that if the perfect white .1 RS came along I could have swung that way too. Either way, no wrong answers here.

I like the "there is no wrong answer" response since all the GT cars are spectacular to drive.

For me, the right answer was a .2. I looked long and hard at .1 RS's but at the time, they were very hard to come by. Even std .2's were hard to find. I searched for 6 months and finally found a 2010 light option Meteor gray. 2k miles at purchase; 18k now. This is the first car I didn't think about selling after 6 months. It does so many things so well.

Just went through this myself.

I have always liked the wide body look ( RS) but when my car was parked at the dealer next to a twinturbo, I stared at the back of each car for about 15 minutes back and forth. I honestly could not appreciate the 3/4 inch differnece in width on either side.

Spoke with Rick Deman at Deman motorsports. He rec'd if it's an airplane, boat or car, buy the newest, latest technology you can afford.

.2GT3 was my choice. No RMS leaks, ? less likely to blow a coolant fitting, revised aero / improved downforce, revised suspension, more HP than a .1rs and CPO warranty.

this is true. But what if the year was 1982 and there was a used 1980 911 on the lot next to a used 73' 911RS?

Hey guys, thanks for the advice. Now that I've read it all I realize I was hoping you'd make me feel better about wanting the 997.1 RS
I guess the 997.2 GT3 makes more sense but there is just something special about the RS for me, I also love LWFW's. I had one in my old 996tt and just loved the way it revved after the install.
So one more thing could anyone comment on the current 997.1 GT3 RS market? I am looking at a 2007 with 18k miles, great cond, one owner, 147k sticker, full leather, PCCB's (which I want). Asking 95k but they seem flexible (dealer). Is this a good price? I'd like to not overpay since Ill probably want to upgrade in a couple years. thx again
Also, any one care to speculate on what these ill be selling for in 2 years? If 90k now make low 80's?
