Default Opinions Wanted - Stock .1RS Strut Blown

So confirmed today with my shop that the PASM warning I was getting is due to a front strut malfunctioning and needs to be replaced.

This is a car I bought to get on the track with for DE events, but also a canyon driver (socal). I'm a track beginner but will keep this car for the long haul, so I don't mind spending $ on it to do things "right".

First thought is since they are in there ripping the thing apart anyway, AND I was having them align the car, I'm going to have them replace the upper control arms, thrust arm bushings, and other key links/rubber that everyone suggests. Car already has the GT2 rear sway on it.

Next question is the shocks. I can spend the $1500 to replace the stock damper (plus labor) or spend (a lot?) more and go for a street/track setup.

Opinions on this last one?

I would use this as the excuse to defeat pasm and get a good quality aftermarket set up

Ohlins, jrz, mcs, etc

If you are keeping the car long term - these systems are superior on street and track IMHO

My feeling is the same honestly.

Any suggestions on which line from either Ohlins or JRZ? I know the pricing range is pretty substantial for these. My shop really like Ohlins.

7.1 PASM isn't very good compared to the 7.2 iteration. I personally like MCS as you get Lex Carson along with the shocks. Shocks, Springs and assorted monoball suspension pieces with labor for install and align are going to run in the 9 to 10k$ range.

Id look for a used GT3 shock from a dismantler.
Then buy toe links, dog bones, monoballs and some thrust arm bushings.

If you have a big budget then disconnect PASM and intall EXE-TC shocks.

if you are interested, I have re-built and re-valved from Bilstein of California OE front shocks that are re-valved for 450# springs + I have the Swift 450# springs.

You know the price of new shocks as you already have a quote - if you are interested, I could sell you both fronts with 450# Swift springs for $800 + shipping

If you search for my thread on re-valving my OE suspension you will find all the info.

The shocks came off my car with around 20k kms and were sent to Bilstein to be rebuild and re-valved. I installed them for a few days and they were removed as I bought another set that I also had rebuilt and re-valved for even higher spring rates.

I offer 100% money back guarantee and my reputation with the guys one here that I have bought stuff from.

email me at mail@pauloneil.com if interested

Personally I believe that you go with what your shop is comfortable with as they are the ones you will be relying on... All brands mentioned are very good

I think a good double adjustable is all any de driver would ever need or want

I am not trying to steer you in any direction other than when/if problems arise, you will be miles ahead if your shop is comfortable with what you have

@997gt3north appreciate the offer, very fair price to say the least. I've also located a take off front damper (complete setup) at a decent price. Will make a decision tomorrow if I go the stock route or go with new coil over setup.

***Anyone care to share an hours "estimate" to do the below install, including full alignment and corner balance?*** Trying to get my head around what I know is a lot of work....
alignment, corner balance, setup
adjustment of front camber plates
solid monoball end links on the LCAs, front rear
LCA adjustable pucks/thrust arm bushings, front/rear
Radius/compression links, front/rear
Rear upper control arms, all 4
Rear bump steer full adjustable links
front and rear drop links

Agreed, I'm looking at this as a system, and why I'm looking to just take care of it all now, it's one they are very comfortable with, including full setups. They were doing the similar work on 2 cars in there today. They had nothing but good things to say about MCS or JRZ, but they know Ohlins the best for these cars.

I think list I posted above has full hog except
Missing front bumpsteer links
No monoball camber plates/shock mounts
I think that's it

I miss being able to adjust shocks at the track (rebound in particular). There is certainly much to be desired between the .1's "normal" and "sport" damper modes. More importantly, we lack to ability to tune one end of the car, so you end up doing it via tire pressures, and bars while at the track.

My guys like Ohlins as well, but their customer service isn't always the best. I the think the Bilstein Clubsport package is probably a really good, but underexposed option as well.

And so the slippery slope begins. Car is at the shop.
Ohlins
Erp and tarett everything
Full alignment and suspension setup with corner balance

Decided to go with what the guys here know and have a massive amount of experience with. They had several other cars in the shop with the same setup and 2 getting similar treatment. Went for a spin in a car with identical setup and for the street is was a night day difference to my mostly stock setup. Not harsh, but firm, in control and super connected.

Can't wait.
