Yes, maybe or very close........

look at ferrari 575 versus 550 prices. the 550 is manual... the 575 flappy paddle (outside of the 240 or so)

the pricing is very close and the best 550 is > the average 575.

well, that remains to be seen..maybe a small dip..but no 20K or something like that. But I bet you that in 5 years the last 997.2 GT3 3.8 series will be worth more then the first 991 Gt3 series..

993 turbo worh more then 996 turbo ...

dump your car
suffer the loss
buy gT3 (you are keeping it 10-15 yrs)
it will for certain depreciate less than 997s, assuming same usage and mileage.
I was going to write the same..in fact, you should have done the upgrade 2-3 years ago to a 997.1 Gt3..they were a bit cheaper at that time..

When you factor real dollar value in mid 1990's to today money, the car has lost tons of money. Figment of imagination for most owners.

Calculate real vs nominal dollar value and 993 owner will be in for a rude awakening, purchasing power of the dollar has changed alot. You are a collector, you should know about all this.
Economics .

simple calculator i found online..

What cost $120000 in 1995 would cost $178575.27 in 2012.

Also, if you were to buy exactly the same products in 2012 and 1995,
they would cost you $120000 and $80323.58 respectively.

That tells me, the owner has lost 100k on purchasing power. Boom.

Of course your correct!..but we were talking about the 997 GT3 here..of course in the time from 1998 till today that 993 turbo would have consumed masses of "maintenance $"..fully agree. My comparison with the 991 Gt3 was just a comparison..both take or took 130K out of your wallet + more for maintenance etc..but the question is which of these will be the one with the least amount of losses..thats all Im saying.

Ah, the other day I said it as a car collector: Public transport is always cheaper..cant beat that...I know that...but I dont like it..

The public transportation problem can be fixed with proper busses.

yes my point is that the argument that a 993 is worth more then a 996 in todays market.. well you paid 50k more if its calculated in 996 days money and its selling for 30 k more in todays in todays market so over all it has not held its value better... yet... thats all

with inflation and depreciation, it will go down. These questions always pop up on cars where the next gen just came out. Never about cars 2-3 or even 4 generations old because no one will care about your 997 once the 992.2 RS comes out with 700lbs of torque out of a battery the size of an iphone. Just drive it and enjoy it They're all great regardless of model.

Throw in TVM and Opportunity Cost and the economic rationale goes from bad to worse. Far be it from me to rain on any one's personal Porsche parade collection, let's just keep the Matrix blue pills flowing a bit longer this is too much fun

Regarding the Nord, I can't watch vid's from the greatest track on the planet unless I throw this one in for old time sake. It's a bit long but well worth it particularly when the driver is heel toeing in dock siders and tube socks while using text book slip angle steering to nail the apexes. Enjoy!

Maybe if he tightened up the rear sway bar and got the car a little looser, he'd be quick!
