The 73 pole sitter described sounds just about right to me. 2000lbs >350hp and full interior!

Wow. If I had the means I'd say Singer only because I have an RS now. Otherwise I'd say the 4.0.

On a side note I've already started the search for a 964 donor for a singer-Esk car. Definitely will not hit the levels of a singer on several marks but from a body standpoint any info on body panels I'd be appreciative of... Wide body, hood, fenders etc..... I can piece out the interior, suspension, and engine in my own time and as $$$ allows. I just have a strong drive to have a retro cool 911 in a bad way right now.

My understanding is that the Singer will actually be in the $300's when you're done. The KMR built car was around $260,000, including the costs of the donor chassis and a hand built engine which was over $60,000.

Singer....I love them, but too much art for me

You can get a good 70-73 911e and make a fun car to enjoy for much less

A 2000 lb 911 might be the most fun I've ever had in a car....and I've driven a 4.0

So, I was thinking if you don't own either and the opportunity presents itself to drive one or the other, perhaps for 30 minutes on an empty track, which one would you take?
I can't fathom the question or the premise.

The motor option in the Singer is $70k, the one below their Cup motor option, and above the refreshing the factory motor.

I know a local guy who owns a singer and never drives it. So does that count here at all - he bought it, unloaded it and now is parked with his collection. He has or has owned most of the cars that you would want to drive, however hasn't driven the singer.

I have an RS - so my vote is the Singer. BTW - his is the white one in Nebraska on the website. This singer has the last of the motors built in England.

I couldn't own that car and not drive it - no way - lol

Well, the premise is quite simple. Hypothetically speaking, if you didn't own either, which one would you pick for a 30 minute, no consequences drive on an empty racetrack (or closed street) of your choice.

This is a fantasy scenario, one which I am inclined to add the KMR car to, at this point.

funny how when people who are living the dream, continue to dream other dreams! haha
dreaming is free, although if i owned a 4.0 i would be all-consumed by it, i reckon..

All depends on your skills I guess but home built and spec'ed 'Singer' type car is where its at, its all in the build that when its done the pride will shine through.

One of those hobbies that's never finished....

On someone else's dime the singer.

Dreams are free (after all, my userid here is Carrera GT) but the Singer isn't a 964 body and it's not much of a 964 chassis once it's done, either. So the premise, "I have been obsessing over the 964 lately (I just love that body style)" is confused. The Singer isn't a track car and the 4.0 is the "ultimate" modern day 911 track car, so if the premise is "on an empty racetrack" the question defines the answer, but if you then add to this fantasy a closed street (circuit?) then it's down to which 30 minute novelty one might choose, since 30 minutes isn't enough time with the car (or girl) of your dreams.

As ever, I prefer the "on a desert island, which would you take" (assuming that island is big enough to also happen to have a 1:1 scale reproduction of the Nurburgring, Laguna, Spa and a few other desirable public roads.)

So I'd say the 4.0 handles much of a muchness like the 3.8. The Singer is bound by the rear suspension arms to handle like a 964 with coil-overs. I'd take the 4.0.

I think the Singer would be overrated to be in the comparison. I'd suggest a "desert island" of an RS 4.0 or a '73 RS Lightweight. That one, I'd take the '73 since the 4.0 might overheat on a desert island and lose its coolant fittings.

As most of us own a very near relative/derivative of the 4.0 or are lucky enough to already own a 4.0, driving something 'different' but not 'better' is where I guess most RL's minds have gone with the fantasy.
