Default Suspension question

Just test drove an 07 gt3 with stock suspension and there was some knocking and rattling coming from either the shocks or something. I was told this was normal, is that true?

Definitely not normal. You will hear tire thump and thud, but if you hear clunks, knocking, or rattling, then something is not right and it may be a safety issue if it's a critical suspension component. Have a competent mechanic check it out.

Could very we'll be loose sway bar end link nuts. Very common problem.

Page 5 from GT3 Owners Manual:

Development philosophy
Porsche 911 GT3 stands for a sports car with
exceptional performance, both on the road and on
the race track. This objective means that, in the
event of any compromise being required between
sportiness and comfort during the development
process, the tendency will be geared more
towards sportiness. This can result in the following
restrictions in comfort:
– Brake squeal when light pressure applied to
the pedal shortly before stopping.
– Rough engine operation in speed range around
3000 rpm.
– Cracking noise in area of front-axle coil
springs.

– Greater operating force for clutch and gear
shifting.
– Aerodynamic-related extremely low vehicle
position with restrictions in terms of ground
clearance.

The tops have metal spherical bearings and it's quite normal for chatter when going over certain bumps.

id check strut top bolts. also check sway bar link bolts.

altered ride height could also cause coil spring issues.

My car sees a fair amount of track time and I've had suspension noises develop where I had none before. One was just a loose sway bar mount that caused chattering over bumps. Tightening the loose bolt fixed that. The other was a worn strut bearing bushing in the front suspension, which allowed excessive movement and caused clunking over bumps. I upgraded to Tarett monoball camber plates with teflon bushings around the bearings to solve that problem.

Any pics of the Tarett Teflon bushing install ? Do you have to install the Tarett camber plate ?

It makes noise right after you jump it.

The only noises I get is the bolt in cage squeaking when the chassis is torqued and the odd interior squeak/rattle.

These are the Tarett camber plates: http://www.tarett.com/items/996-997-...lta-detail.htm. Its bearing/bushing assembly can be removed from the plate in case it ever needs to be replaced. However the OEM factory piece has the bearing/bushing integrated into the plate and it is not removable, so you replace the entire plate if the rubber bushing goes bad (as mine did).

Thank you for all the responses. I've decided not to buy the car, not just because of this possible issue but it made me decide to look for something with low mileage unless its all street miles.

Could anyone point out the strut bearing bushing and metal spherical bearing in the pic below?
