Don't paint the rockers, go nuts on the rest if you like.
I think mine is perfect, no need to do anything else.

As to the rockers, does anybody know if they will just quickly chip or peel ? Maybe that is why the painted option was discontinued ? Dunno.
The 996 GT3 came with painted rockers, and they're okay for the most part. However, they do tend to pick up road rash right behind the front wheel wells, right where the rocker curves up into the wheel well. You may be able to apply some protection film there, or just repaint that area every so often.

It's your car, so do whatever makes you happy.

if you want to paint, put vinyl wrap or protective film on it... you can always remove it. It you get paranoid, get double layer of film on it...

The point is the journey, not the destination.

I for one don't even track anymore, but I would welcome a few extra ponies with open arms.

Lets put a mustache on the Mona Lisa while we are at it - the 4.0 is perfect just my opinion.

Pardon the thread jack, OP. A financial justification for anything you buy for a Porsche is typically not based in reality. For me you do things in life because you enjoy them, if you don't, then why do it... I'm a user of cars, not a collector... to each his own!

It makes me happy as I like to modify/augment things to tailor my tastes. A 4.2L has been done before and for lots and lots of money. I wanted to try and do it for a bit less and see where it took me. I have a small tuner company, so consider it R&D...

I like the challenge of a perfect heel and toe, so no sequential for me...

Regarding beating a 7 cup car, well you're right but at least the GT3/RS with built engine has a license plate and can be enjoyed on the street and track.
