New Recall for 2011 GT3RS for Resonance Flap Pin?
At the RTR PCA Poconos DE on May 18-19, 2013 a friend with a 2011 GT3RS 3.8 pulled up complaining of check engine light and bad noises coming from engine area. A diagnostic code P0300 intermittent misfires at cylinders #3 and #6 were logged. He decided to drive home to see the dealer instead of doing any track driving. The car broke down and had to be towed. Upon teardown the dealer tech noted the engine was seized and there were some metal pieces in the cylinder.
They are awaiting installation of a refurbed engine. The dealer said on Monday May 19, 2013 there was issued a recall for the "resonance flap hinge pin?" in the intake manifolds of the GT3RS engine whose failure can lead to metal parts falling into the engine and leading to damage. I am awaiting photos of the damage and failed part to post tomorrow or whenever I get them.
I don't know what recall campaign designation this is nor which engine (whether it is RS specific or all GT3 3.8L engines).
My friend told me to contact PCNA for clarification.

I called the dealer and it appears the RS models are only the ones being recalled. I assume that resonance flap is only part of the RS(3.8 and 4.0) design that gives the engine the additional 15/65 HP along with the bigger air scoops in the rear decklid over the regular GT3's. From rennlists posts it appears to affect the Cup and race cars as well.

...in addition to my yesterdays GT3RS story of breakages and fixes, I forgot they also fixed the flap spindle issue while the engine was out and being worked on. This , in itself, was a recall issue. The parts could break and end up inside the engine.

This part broke on my RS and went into engine and killed it. Porsche replaced engine under warranty last January 2013. Nice reset at 5000 miles on my engine
