Exactly. There are hardly any GT3's competing at anything. A few talented auto cross guys. I don't think there are any street conversion road race 996 Gt3's because it's so close to the 6 cup. May have seen a couple of 7 GT3's being raced including Troy Talamentez' 7.2 RS and a couple of .1 RS's.

I think you are exactly right. I AutoX my RS and have done 2 DE's with it now, 3 more scheduled by May, but it's certainly not competition. I love to exercise my car on the track but there is always that, I'm in for a $120K and I will push it only so far attitude. I long to drive it with reckless abandon, but my practical side always says, hold on cowboy, don't ball it up. I am thinking about getting a pure track/DE car, around $30+K or so, maybe next year, late this year, that I will be OK to trash. In the meantime I'm quite content to drive my incredible 2011 RS within reasonable limits, at DE's and AutoX's. I'll respectfully give you a point by before I push too hard at the track because I'll be taking my wife on a weekend get away the next week. I do know which side my bread is buttered on. I love these cars! That said I'll be anxiously awaiting the next RS.

My reliable sources have told me that the 991 RS will have a 4.0 liter engine and more power than the 997 4.0. PDK is a good thing as far as I'm concerned. I picked up my new Boxster S last week (summer non track car) with PDK and the revised PDK is outstanding! It shifts so fast that going up through the gears sounds like an F1 car.
The bad news about the RS is that it will come on 21 inch wheels (ugh!). Perhaps to clear huge brakes but still .....

there are plenty of club racers who drive stripped 997.1 RS cars. probably 997.2 RS cars will also join that group, as of narrow body cars - it is just logical, why would anybody use that as a donor if you can get widebody car to work with?
as of logical sense to do a complete rebuild of street RS car donor into race car instead of buying cup car to begin with - it is a totally different question and I guess there are plenty of people out there who equally prefer one way or another. in my opinion it is more cost effective to go with 996 cup car than to build up 997.1 RS into baby cup but for somebody who already rebuilt his RS half way it may not be same thing, so, who knows.

I have a 991S pdk for a daily driver. IMO it's nice and quick but not flawless. Coming from a .2RS 2011, there is without question this desensitized digital feeling whereas the RS is so analog in comparison. Pdk maybe faster and for racing I'm sure it makes sense when we are talking about 100th of second. But for the weekend trackday and jaunts to Starbucks nothing beats the RS. .1rs just the same. Should have never sold mine so quick.
