Can be done but it will kill the fender liners and you cant lower tha car as much as you'd like.
Plus the Nitto's have more grip then the RA1's to begin with...

I'm on my 4th or 5th set of nittos. Great tire. I noticed splitting once. Purely cosmetic on the top layer of the tread. Nothing structural. Session or two and it was wore off. Are there any documented failures or is this concern over something cosmetic?

What tire size are you running and when did you buy it? I'm new to this side of the fence but I've been tracking my M3 for a while and running NT 01. Several M3 guys had tread splicing issues with recent build dates. Here is a list of build dates and reported status. This is for 275/35/18, not sure if the problem is specific to tire size or not.

DD hit the crack pipe last weekend. There will be no going back to NT-01's now.

I've been using them over the past 2 years and I haven't tracked anything regarding purchase dates and batches.

You got that right. Whoah. I have a new set of Nittos too. This would be like using an ipod and going back to a walkman

ti-jean. I'm running NT01 245/40/18 fronts and no problem with tread splitting. I had major issues with Toyo R888 tread splitting across the tire. I had this issue in late 2011 and I sent 4 R888 tires back to Tire Rack.
R888 is not really a great tire but it was ok for DE because it comes in the sizes but something happened in 2011 and the tire changed and was just awful....less grip and it falls apart and splits so bad it's unsafe to run it. Toyo has issues with R888 from what I've read on other forums and then I met a other DE guys that had the same issue. Also the Toyo RR is splitting too....JUNK!

I drive to and front the track so I can't run Hoosier or Pirelli slicks.
