I went through the same exercise last year and I know it has been the topic of several threads... Bottom line they are both great cars and very similar. Depends on what they want for the intended use as you stated...

+2 Black/Orange RS, but I am biased as well! Would be interested to see the car in question as there are a few that have been sitting on the market for a while.

Went through the same process last year - but went the other way - .2 GT3. Normally do 4 to 5 DEs a year and some autocross. Looked a mint orange 997.1 GT3RS but ended up going with the newer 997.2 GT3, slightly better performance route. I drive to and from the track and don't change wheels/tires at the track.

RS (CS spec) with Sharkies 3.9 engine, Guard diff, rose jointed suspension etc... best of both worlds

RS...but I am biased.
I can't comment on the 2.GT3 as I haven't driven one, but looks wise I prefer the RS.1.
Again...nice choice to have.....
