Default GT3 RS Clutch Problem

Hello everyone,

My 2008 GT3 RS started having some strange clutch problems today. It makes a terrible screeching noise and almost feels like friction or grinding as I compress it. Seems to work fine, just feels and sounds terrible.

When the car is first turned on, seems to work perfect for 5 or so minutes.

Car is going into SCB on Monday but I would love to hear some of your feedback - won't be driven until then.

Thanks all,
John

Sounds like a bad throw out bearing.

Thanks Serge. Unlikely the clutch?

Is the bearing a costly fix?

tranny still has to come out, while you're there, no reason why you shouldn't replace everything, unless you don't track the car.

My thoughts exactly, if it is the throw out bearing, replace the lot while in there.

Just took a video of the noise, uploading now.

What kind of cost is associated with replacing the whole lot roughly? Should I consider replacing with non-stock parts for durability reasons?

Here is a video with the noise. It only makes the noise when the clutch is compressed.

I couldn't hear a throwout bearing issue from your recording but your description suggests that's the problem. If you just noticed the sound it should be safe to drive it to SCB but if the throwout bearing fails you will not be able to get it into gear. I would call the SCB guys before you bring it in and let them hear the sound from your phone while its running so they can advise you to drive it or have it towe/trailered in. I give a thumbs up to SCB since my 6GT3 has been very well taken care of by them.

Thanks Cavlino.

It's a very weird noise, any ideas?

Update:
Just went to start the car to take it to the shop and the clutch pedal just pressed to the floor and wont come back up...

Anything I can do to make the car drive out of the parking garage safely to have it towed?

Ah, that sucks! Most likely your clutch slave cylinder has gone or needs bleeding. A tech savy person could get you limping by if it is just a matter of bleeding the clutch slave cylinder. Hmm, you may be lucky... try this make sure the car is in neutral, let it warm up, while you are letting it warm up try and pull back on the clutch pedal. It may pull back enough so that you can engage reverse or 1st gear to get it to a spot where it can be easily towed.
Good luck!

Leave it in gear and use the starter to move the car.

Check slave cylinder as well as clutch spring. Can u lift pedal up with shoe and see if it comes up or pedal falls down? If it stays up u can drive car but u have to lift clutch pedal each time u shift. Happened to me on track- limped it back to paddock. My clutch spring was gone. Mike
