Default Passing DEQ

Just a shot in the dark to see if anyone has made the GT3 pass with DEQ with high flow cats. I'm trying to avoid swaping out the exhaust back to stock. My Evom software overwrites the CEL, but the OBD still records readiness faults which fails DEQ.

Anyone have some tricks?

Some tricks we've used on BMW's is to pull the O2 sensor away from the direct flow with an extender.

This piece has actual restrictors to use to fine tune it.

Just pull the codes and see if the error is there after install...

thanks- looks like it might be worth a try. I wonder if there is room for the extender?

I imagine that this is just a temporary fix too, you wouldn't want this in long since it screws up your air/fuel ratio and could cause you to run too lean.

At least in California, the penalties for defrauding the government are not inconsiderable. They've drawn a hard line on circumventing the emissions testing. I don't know which DEQ you mean, but I'd suggest you keep an eye on the consequences and stay alert for any changes. Depending upon how carefully you've set up the legal separation of your business and yourself, the liability can reach you personally and the fines are per instance. These laws are revenue models, they're not protecting the consumer or the environment, they're not concerned about impact or intent, they just want as much money as they can suck up with their own special kind of blood funnel*.

God forbid we would do anything illegal. Still running cats and hardly drive the car on the street.

Quick search shows the biggest use for this device is too improve mileage. Which is what I'm trying to do. Saving the environment, .1 mpg at a time....

It's practically impossible to avoid doing anything illegal, it's a matter of what the fickle legal system deems significant to their mysterious purposes. A boy downloading files from MIT is a public enemy of the state, bankers stealing billions from works and destroying the economy are beyond reproach.

Anyway, rant aborted, emissions are a moving target, but if you can get the readiness codes right (there is a road drive cycle that sets them) then the pipe emissions on a 911 are so clean, I don't see an issue unless the car doesn't pass a visual inspection for modifications to engine, intake and exhaust. They might not even be able to locate and eyeball the cats, but if they saw a spacer, they might get "technical" because that would be on their short list of verboten cheats.

I had a catless system on my 996-3 with the spacer full time and I passed wa emissions

Now I register in a county that does not require emissions testing as our government ponders doing away with all emissions testing

Make sure it goes on the post cat O2 and your car won't run lean. If it went on the pre cat O2 then you'd have a problem. Car has two checks for fueling, MAF gets the load and the pre cat O2's feed back the fueling for the DME to trim if necessary.

They come in straight and 90 degree so you should be fine...

Hi Montoya,

Using spacers on the Akrapovic Evolution system will not solve the engine code issue - I tried this before switching to the EVOMSit software.

Cheers!

I agree with Doug, I had extenders on my AWE cats, didn't get rid of the CEL. I have a custom tune on my car from Blitzkreig, very smooth and some nice gains in torque around the 3000 - 5000 rpm range.
