Default 997.1 Gt3 RS Wing

Hey Guys,

Need your help. I have a 997.1 gt3 and I really want to put a RS Wing on it. I looked into OEM RS wings but the cost is absolutely crazy. Not sure if anybody on here has changed out there factory wing for an RS wing but any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

I can understand doing it on the 6GT3 as the stock wing was wimpy and just didn't look like it fit with the car. Moving to the RS wing "made" the car. However, on the 7GT3, the new "taco" wing looks amazing and looks just perfect on the 7GT3. Totally personal preference but I just don't get it. Insane pricing to get that look when the cost to do it and a couple grand on top of a clean non RS will get you into a RS.

The whole decklid needs to be changed to install RS wing. Totally different uprights. PITA to do.

I'm sure you have already thought of this, but if you do make the switch I hope you keep every piece of the stock wing for you or the next owner. IF the car is still around in 30 or 40 years in stock condition you can bet the the stock taco wing will be ONLY wing someone will want for the car.

I switched out the stock 997.1 GT3 wing for the RS factory wing and decklid when I bought the car in 2007. You will also need a new shock strut, as the GT3 strut lets the RS decklid go too far forward.

Not sure I would do the switch at today's prices. But the RS wing is very nice and you can adjust the wing angle quite a bit.

New parts cost for the RS decklid/wing is about $13k.

When the delta between a regular GT3 and RS is typically 20k, might as well buy an RS!

Regarding the cup wing...it's more efficient. You can get the same downforce with less drag (or even more downforce if you'd like).

I don't mean to offend, but what is the point of changing just the rear wing?

The original wing has been designed by engineers, masters of fluid dynamics and aerodynamics, to fit the car as a whole. A different rear wing changes the air flow completely, not just at the rear, no? And increased downforce on the rear axle makes the original suspension setup sub-optimal? (Source: Valkenburgh's Race Car Engineering & Mechanics)

So imho tampering with aerodynamics just to make the car look cooler, is in fact plain silly. It doesn't look better (unless you like "Ricer" cars) and most importantly it doesn't perform any better (with everything else unchanged).
