My 3.8 smokes maybe every 6-10 startups. Burns zero oil between changes. 16K and runs even stronger than it did when I bought it (at 2K).

Thanks guys. This thread is a big relief. My first GT3 in 2009 was smoking a lot and i didnt like it.
Now i drive my second 3.8 GT3 and is parked in a garage that i have to drive slow the last minutes.
Smoke is much less but as i see almost everybody has seen it.

My 08 RS smokes for about 2-3 seconds at start-up about 8% of the time. It's done that since I bought it with 451 miles; the car now has >25K miles.
The smoke is light grey-blue and (usually) dense enough to look like fog, and attract attention.
Nothing I've tried has significantly increased or decreased the chances of it smoking, though I don't have enough experience with steeply angled parking, either way.

All the flat sixes tend to give the occasional puff. After 17 years of having a 911 as my daily driver I can safely state that there is no way to tell when or if it will puff. I can say there is a high propensity for a huge puff on start up whenever a large crowd is present. As long as it only puffs on start up you are ok. Oil can get past the rings with certain engine layouts. Ever see how much a 300hp Wright radial puffs on start?

i have a .1 RS and it smokes occasionally as well... probably bout 20% of the time. previous owner told me its normal and i trust him since he is a good friend so i never gave it a 2nd thought. sometimes (maybe 5% of the time) i hear the grinding sound upon start up. that freaked me out more. but it goes away within 15 seconds and then the car purrs nicely again. seems like others have heard the sound on their cars as well.

wife thought my car was broken the first time she saw it smoking.... the joys of living with an GT3/RS!

Mine smokes like 95% of Pcar sixes. Its not a 'fault' but just character if an embarrassing one! My parking bay is directly outside reception and if someone times it wrong and opens the door when I start it fills the offices with nice acrid blue smoke, good job I'm the boss.

RMS is a leak from the seal behind the flywheel and leak appears as a drip from the gearbox to engine join.

Mine smokes, always has. Just not every time. Something to do with the dry sump as has been explained to me.

I tried putting one of those patches on the fender to kick the smoking habit. Did not work though. Kind of like smoking after sex I guess.

You may be on to something...I'll have to keep track for awhile and see if there is a correlation.

Never noticed any smoke from my 3.6L '04. Doesn't seem to burn any oil either, but I change it fairly frequently.
