Level here too.

Also it's happened several times w/o waiting/sitting a couple days.

IMO. The amount of smoke seems excessive. I'm comparing it to my old 6GT3. As others have mentioned I may have a battle on my hands w/ a dealer... On the other hand it may be normal?

Sell it & buy a real car that doesn't do this, like a BMW

I have 3 bimmers.

Problem is that the race car one blows white smoke!!! The head is going back on as we speak. This time the head was shaved and new HG. Last time (in March) it was a new/rebuild engine.

I don't think you'll make any progress with the dealer unless you have a friend there that is willing to pull strings.

My '08 RS smokes as well, it has from the day I bought it second hand @ 1,600 miles.

I have an 80% success rate of no smoke at start up if I do the following; let idle for 1-2 min before shut down, do not touch the brakes at all during idle or after shut down (e-brake ok). Beleive it, works for me.

Has something to do with keeping the vacumn in the case, if the brakes are applied the vacumn is reduced. I realize it's a short period of time before the vacumn is not effective but seems that's all it needs to keep oil from getting by the rings.

Ive been thinking about this and am curious if the smoke is from oil getting past the rings or if it's coming in from the CCV system. Anyone tried a catch can in line with the vent line to the Throttle body? This would go along with the increased crank case vacuum prevents the smoke theories. Also there are ways to boost crank case vacuum, but doing so on a dry sumped car can be tricky.

My 996 GT3 blew smoke - still in our club and runs fine after 8 years of track! My 997 RS.1 blew smoke, still in the club and tracked hard with no issues. Guess what, my 997.2 RS ... blows smoke. None use(d) oil between changes. The GT3 motor will blow smoke on startup after it sits for a while. What is more important is that it DOES NOT blow smoke when run hard to the red line.

Mine smokes more often than not. Sometimes, it looks like a fog bank before dissapating.
Stealer says it is normal.

I get nervous when mine doesn't smoke....I never noticed "blue" smoke though. More like fog as mentioned by previous poster.

Mine sometimes smokes on start-up, maybe 10-15% of the time. As others have already pointed out, this is "normal" for these cars. Mine tends not to do it if it's been sitting only a few hours or less. I don't worry about it. The engine uses very little oil, even during track sessions.

If the smog scares you, you would have a heart attack when the car does the infamous GT3 grinding-noise when start-up.

they all do. I'll be worried the day it doesn't.

My car doesn't burn one bit of oil.

My 6800 mile 2007 997.1 Black/Orange RS smokes during start up from time to time as well, especially after it has sat for a week or more. On a few occasions I have almost filled up my 48 x 28 garage with blue smoke!

My 2004 GT3 rarely if ever smokes at start up but that car is driven very hard the majority of the time as its primary my track car. Believe it or not I agree with the letting it idle for a minute or two prior to turning the car off as it seems to work for me also.
