Default COTA cancelling track rentals???

Terrible news if true: I heard from one of the Texas DE groups that Circuit of the Americas is cancelling all track rentals for 2013 except for major races. I'm not sure what 'major races' means, but I'm guessing it means the major pro races like Australian V8, which would also mean the SCCA race scheduled for March would be cancelled.

Has anyone heard similar news? I signed up for the MVP Track Event there next February and is/was really looking forward to it.

Drew, I'm signed up too. I've spent the last week deciding on a truck/trailer acquisition. Glad I haven't committed yet. Lets hope this is just a bad rummer. Allan

Hold on guys. Yes the Drivers Edge people got the call but their contract had not yet been accepted so there is hope. MVP and DM both have signed contracts. Big difference.

Unless COTA can generate money from thin air then I think canceling DE is crazy ..... Unless we have enough fools that will pay $50K a day for private track rental

There clearly aren't enough major racing groups to run that track all year. Has to be something else. Maybe skip Barber taking up all the dates. Or Bondurant or similar racing schools.

It will open up to de at some point.

I know they were negotiating with a school (forget which one), so I would assume that the school deal went thru and now they want the dates back. If that is the case then you can go to some lame driving school and drive slow in a slow car with other rookies and sit in a class room all day... and pay 4 or 5 THOUSAND dollars a day.

Yes I received the email from owner at The Drivers Edge as well. Per email, all track events are cancelled for next year.

Hoping since Mark at MVP signed the contract, they will have to honor it. I feel bad for the guys making arrangement for the long trip. If the MVP event is cancelled, that would be really sh*tty.

May be Mark at MVP can chime in to clarify.

Just got the email from Mark @ MVP. He confirmed they are canceling the event. He said he would explore all options.

Guys, apparently COTA hired Mr Scrooge to run their business and could care less about track enthusiasts like us and want to squeeze every penny from blue blood folks that can pay thousands of dollar a day to do circles there. Stay tune and if COTA don't reverse the course and get their head out of their *** and treat us with respect then we will boycott the damn track. They can get away with it for couple months until the novelty wears off then they will realize the country is still trying to crawl out of a recession and they need all the support they can get from EVERYBODY to keep it afloat.

Someone at COTA better pick up a business 101 text book and do some reading. You can't get any worst than this - canceling track events that's already agree on right before the holiday. Apparently they could care less about making on the naughty list

Somebody's got to keep the weeds from growing up between the cracks in the pavement. Is there that much school, testing and pro team practice to warrant? I would be surprised...

The info that I've heard 2nd hand (fwiw) is that COTA is very concerned about the need to maintain a pristine track so that they can continue to attract the major race organizers.

So far all the events at COTA are for the major players like Cadillac, Ferrari, etc.

Oh well..may be in 2014..

We need to sort this out ASAP. I am assuming that signed contracts with deposit checks having been cashed are good to go, but that they are not adding any more rental dates.

I will try to verify with my contact there, who got us set up with David Murry, but it likely won't be until after Christmas.

I'm also hearing that the MVP event is cancelled. I'm waiting for the official announcement but not holding my breath. I don't think I'll be going to any events at COTA, races or DE, if this is how they'll be doing business.
