Hey, that's an old scare tactic, that "nice" wall at Sonoma Raceway (SR) -no longer "SP"-; if you do T9 right, no problemo on T10 :-) We should drive Sonoma some day, that's my favorite track!

I'm very paranoid. I let my friend drive it on track for fear it's going to grenade something if sitting in garage for months on end. He's going for racing license with pca-ggr in late march told him go rt ahead. Do not have to worry because car is safe and he's an aware driver. Neway for what it's worth hope this recall fixes the faults. I'm still waiting for PAG to acknowledge the pos coolant fittings that's been around for last 8 years. Mike

Sp/Infineon/ sonoma yada yada - it's that fun as hell track we speak of : ). It's my favorite track as well. Most rewarding track ever in NorCal. We should meet up this season : ). U know that applies to most tracks that if u do it right- there's no **** no fan : ). I just rather be my fault that I nailed it to the wall than some stupid mechanical flaw. Mike

Mine failed at Buttonwillow exiting the esses at about 110 mph at 1.15 G's. Quite a ride. =)

Is that where it happened? Before the little straight before the 90 degree Turn?

Yes, in the left exiting the esses prior to the short start with pit in. The one that someone earlier in the day warned me about early apexing (which is actually for a moment what I thought I did as we were sliding sideways off the track).

It was my first day at Buttonwillow and did my fastest lap, a 2:06, the previous lap. Data showed 110+ 1.1-1.2 G's 100% accelerator. Folks who heard then saw it say it sound like a hand grenade going off, they looked up and saw the cloud of dust and the car sliding.

Had a PCA instructor with me at the time, he confirmed I did not hit anything (did not think I had but a second opinion is always good) had a good line in the corner and I was at effectively opposite lock when we exited the track (which did not help keep the car on the track in this case). Failure was instantaneous and the backend snap to the right, the car slid sideways parallel to the track.

you are very lucky it didn't bite and rotate you inside towards the little retaining wall or corner worker station. so your RR center lock hub failed then assuming it was the one taking the full load on the last ess.

these center locks are just more and more bad news. i'm sick of them.
glad you were not hurt. sucks porsche isn't helping out.

seen plenty of cars last days on the esses. instructor in one and went for ride similar to yours with a student but no wheel exploding. just early apex and ran out of road on track out. there is nothing there that would cause a wheel to grenade.

Got my notice and the car will be going in when spring rolls around...

Checked with the Stealer and was quoted the following for costs now associated with the ongoing routine maintenance of the CL's.... yikes! This in kilometers, Canadian funds plus 13% tax....

7,000km $3190.00 + tax
14,000km $7392.00 + tax
28,000km $12402.00 + tax

Has anyone figured out why RS are unaffected?

No wheel fell off an RS that I know of, no one got notification of recall that I know of.
Personally know of at least heavily tracked 100K miles of 2010+ CL RS no isssues. Many cars with 15-20K miles now..All of them many track days at Sebring. You know where they test cars in 12 hours so they know it will last 24 hours at lemans.....

Pete, the RSs got the upgraded hubs that are now being fitted to the GT3s... These hubs are now requiring strict maintenance schedules to be followed which proves Porsche still have grave concerns about them failing. There will be notification for the rest of us about following the new schedule eventually. Just like the torque increase to 600Nm, Porsche will drag their backsides and take 12 months to get around to breaking the news to the rest of us... Remember, dealers notified of 600Nm increase in 08/10 or sooner, customers issued formal manual inserts in 06/11 as part of recall AB01... Same will happen with all CL owners regarding CL maintenance...
