Default Electrical Shutdown

Took the 2010 GT3 out for a quick ride to shake off the "election blues". During a turn (clutch was in) I lost engine and total power. Turned the key to off position and it restarted as if nothing happened. Any idea what caused this?

Thanks

I had a similar issue on a 2001 Audi S4.
At the time I was running an after market LWFW.
This particular LWFW had lost some dowel pins in the fylwheel.
With the dowel pins out, there became enough play in the toothed struture around the flywheel which is used for engine timing such the sensor that watched this toothed ring gear go round and round lost contact - and I guess somewhere in the ECU's program is to immediately cut the engine and to protect itself. I could only replicate the problem going hard into a corner on the track - but I was able to kill the engine 3 times in a row doing it. Because my car was still moving and I put my left foot in as I was downshifting from 3rd to 2nd as the car cut ignition, when I eventually 3 seconds later released my clutch and the car was still 2nd gear, the car re-stated on it's own while on the track - i.e. old school rolling a standard car down a hill to start it.

I would bet you are having a similar issue - the sensor is losing contact and thus shutting the engine.

I say this 'guessing' that the 2010gt3 has the similar design - but this is a guess.

No LWFW in the GT3, only the RS. So I am not sure I have the same problem.

Someone mentioned the ground strap leading to the starter...

I would definitely check the ground strap and the battery connections for corrosion or looseness.

Tasman, will check the ground strap. But I liked your first answer, would that be covered under warranty!

I'm sure the guy who "saved" the auto industry could get almost anything covered under warranty for you.

It isn't just a lwfw thing - it is just that I had a failure of my after market lwfw.

What I don't know is if a porsche 2010 gt3 dual mass fw has a speed sensor / toothed ring gear on it that is used my the ECU for engine timing - if it does, that could be your issue
