Default GT2 pricing

I am contemplating the decision of a GT3RS or a GT2 (I know, I'm not the first). The latter is a '08 with just under 10k miles. Would come CPO'd from a Porsche dealer. I've negotiated with them to the low 130's. From reading other threads, my view is that this is still a bit too high. Seems like the mid 120's is great, high 120's is good. Anyone care to chime in and confirm/contest this view?

FWIW, the GT3RS is a 2011 that the dealer is asking a lot for. As such, I am slightly inclined to go down the GT2 route, though PCM 2.1 is a real drag. Also have no idea how depreciation will pan out between these models, though I suspect the GT3 will hold more value.

My intent is to track whichever I purchase. I'd have to add a cage to the GT2.

Many thanks!

You could always change out the PCM 2.1. I did that with my 2007 GT3. Benchmark Motoring in the Seattle area(Bellevue) replaced it with a Kenwood ddx model and it looks great. Did this mainly for backup camera when I have the necksgen,6pt harnesses, bar and rear wing it is hard to turn your head to see when backing up. Having pandora and DVD when stationary not bad too. Did not get the model with Bluetooth/nav as I have earpiece for bluetooth(noisy enough in a "3"). Good noises though.

Cool. Helpful. Do you lose any Porsche functionality?

Have you driven both? Do that first.

Regarding pricing...you can find either for under 130k. So, why pay more?

I think the GT2 will hold it's value longer. The GT3 RS is only a year or two old, and based on your description selling pretty close to original MSRP. I think the market will be FLOODED with GT3 RSs when the 991 version comes out, driving down the price.

I have not driven either on the track, but I am making the assumption that both will be a total blast. To that end I don't think there is a wrong decision here, just a smart one based on dollars and cents.

Interesting perspective on resale. Thanks.

The pcm 2.1 in its basic form I think doesn't have much functionality. My wife has it in her 05 Boxster and the 07 GT3 was similar; radio AM/FM and CD changer. Aftermarket systems abound; it is just important to get a quality install. About a year ago in EXCELLENCE magazine was an article written by a race driver on the differences in his opinion driving a GT2 and GT3 RS back to back. Look for it if you haven't seen it already. I am not at a location where I can tell you what issue it was.

Perhaps others can chime in. Then drive them both and form your own opinion.

Gt2 mostly street
Gt3 mostly track
This seems to be the general summation based mainly on the linear response of the gt3 na motor
While I have never tracked a gt2 I cannot help but believe if it is properly exploited it could be devastating
In addition I have read and heard that turbo lag was greatly reduced with the addition of VVT in the 997 that the "widowmaker" 996 gt2 did not have.

I will say that the na gt3 absolutely sings at 8000 rpm and I think I would miss that on the track in a gt2 BUT I think a gt2 on the street would be wonderful as well

Ultimately the answer is simple - both ;-)

Isn't that the article where the GT2RS lap time was faster by about 3 seconds?

[QUOTE=PJS996GT3;9978975]Gt2 mostly street

Absolute Nonsense!

That's why I said "general summation" meaning if you review all the gt2 vs 3 threads, generally speaking that seems to be the theme

I think you can change your driving style to suit any platform from lawn mowers to f1 cars

That video is very pro GT3 RS. And he's not comparing to a GT2, he's comparing to a GT2 RS. Definitely interesting, not sure that it's moved my thinking at all.
